[Section 1: Rendongteng (Lonicerae Japonicae Caulis)]
Taste is sweet. Nature is cold. Non-toxic. It grows by absorbing the central Qi of the Earth and inheriting the Spring Qi of Heaven. Its flower is named Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle Flower).
[Indications] Primarily treats chills and fever, and body swelling. (*Bielu*) Treats abdominal distension and fullness, and stops downward-flowing Qi (diarrhea). (*Zhen Quan*) Treats heat-toxin bloody dysentery and watery diarrhea; decoct strongly and take orally. (Treats Feishi and Fuliang [wandering spirits and internal masses])
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Lung Meridian. It is a substance for dissipating heat and detoxifying. (Key herb for external medicine)
[Preceding Discussion] Li Shizhen stated: The leaves and flowers of Rendongteng have identical functions. Ancients regarded it as a key herb for treating wind, eliminating distension, resolving dysentery, and expelling "Shi" (parasitic diseases), but later generations no longer discuss these specific applications.
[Contraindications] Wu Pu stated: Contraindicated for those with deficiency-cold causing diarrhea.
[Section 2: Unnamed Herb in Text, Contextually Resembling Su Mu or Similar Blood-Activating Herb]
Taste is bitter. Nature is warm. Non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily, burning it repels epidemic Qi (Tianxing Shiqi) and strange phenomena in dwellings. When worn by children, it repels evil and pathological Qi. (From Li...) Treats fractures and metal wounds; stops bleeding.
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Liver Meridian and permeates all Twelve Meridians. It is a substance for dispersing pathogenic factors.
[Preceding Discussion] Zhongchun stated: For medicinal use, herbs that are red in color, fragrant, sweet-smelling, and non-pungent are superior. Those that are deep purple are inferior. It treats upper-body injuries where blood stasis accumulates, involving pain upon pressing the chest, diaphragm, and bones, and associated blood disorders.

Taste is acrid. Nature is neutral. Non-toxic.

[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Spleen and Stomach Meridians. It is a substance for resolving knots and killing parasites. (Capable of resolving meat accumulations)
[Preceding Discussion] Xiao Bing stated: People treating malaria often use toxic substances such as Changshan (Radix Dichroae) and arsenic. They are unaware that Ewei is mild, harmless, and effective. Prescriptions utilize Ewei to treat [dysentery].
[Processing] Lei Gong stated: Generally, when preparing it, grind it finely in a mortar. Pass it over a hot wine vessel [to melt/soften it] before incorporating it into the prescription.
[Section 4: Luhui (Aloe)]

[Preceding Discussion] Su Song stated: Its efficacy specializes in killing parasites and clearing heat. All diseases it treats are primarily governed by heat and parasites.
Ao’s Note: In recent times, Luhui is used as a laxative ("Gengyi Yao"). This is attributed to its function of clearing dryness and cleansing heat.
