This condition initially presents with numbness, which gradually becomes hard and stubborn over time. The patient may not feel pain even when the flesh is cut or gouged out. Symptoms may include cold pain or soreness in the joints. The patient fears exposure to frost and dew, is unable to sweat, and experiences worsening symptoms during autumn and winter, characterized by spasmodic pulling sensations that make walking difficult. If blood circulation is obstructed and stagnant, dampness generates, leading to skin ulceration. The hands and feet become soft and curved, the muscles flaccid, and the sinews and bones weak and lax. This is caused by excessive indulgence in alcohol and sexual activity, leading to the depletion of Kidney Water (Jing). Alternatively, it results from failing to avoid cold and dampness during periods of fatigue or anger, allowing Wind pathogenic factors to penetrate deeply. With internal Qi insecure and toxins invading from outside, severe cases lead to paralysis, wasting, emaciation, and death. Treatment should select formulas such as Qixiao Dan (Miraculous Effect Pill), Erba Jiyang Dan (Two-Eight Yang-Nourishing Pill), or Liushen Fusheng Dan (Six-God Supporting Sage Pill), assisted by agents that dry dampness and nourish blood.
In this condition, the center of the sole feels unstable when stepping, indicating that small vesicles (water nests) have formed within the Yongquan (Kiding, KI1) acupoint. Intense itching leads to scratching and rupture, discharging yellow fluid. It is often mistaken for simple vesicles or scabies and treated as a minor ailment. Over time, it develops into an ulcer with internal erosion, becoming foul and non-healing. The lesion spreads to the dorsum of the foot, causing perforation and purulent discharge. The body's Qi, fluids, and blood flow downward uncontrollably and fail to consolidate. Commonly known as "Heart-Piercing Sole Wind," it has a high mortality rate with few survivors, primarily due to delayed treatment in the early stages. Etiology involves excessive labor allowing Wind-Dampness to invade; excessive sexual desire depleting Kidney Water, exhausting the Heart Master; unrestrained fantasies and lust; and chronic worry and rumination, which prevent the gathering of Qi and Blood. Treatment options include Kushen Wan (Sophora Root Pill), Qixiao Dan, or Huolong San (Fire Dragon Powder).
This condition manifests as subcutaneous nodules or lumps on the body, large ones the size of a fist and small ones like pellets. They protrude unevenly and are accompanied by numbness, coldness, and pain, along with soreness and stiffness behind the elbows. There may also be scaly lesions or small sores that are purple-black and swollen, resembling a toad. Commonly called "Leprous Numb Wind," once these break open, they form ulcers discharging foul-smelling pus. The cause is excessive licentiousness damaging Kidney Water, combined with the accumulation of Damp-Cold pathogens injuring the Spleen collaterals, leading to systemic deterioration. Treatments include selecting Banlong Bashuai Dan, Duoming Huanshen Dan, or Shenxiao Zhuifeng Wan. Another condition, known as "Zhufeng" (Stagnant Wind), causes shifting pain in the heart and hypochondrium, migratory body pain, pulling sensations impacting the chest, red eyes, vomiting, loss of eyebrows and hair, toxic sores, blackened skin, and nodules resembling a toad; in the south, this is called "Li Ma." Additionally, there is a condition where masses arise within the flesh of the head, face, and entire body, coiling like a snake, named "Panhe" (Coiled Core). These can be treated by applying a fine powder of moss grown on bricks after rain, mixed with water.
