This condition initially presents with urticaria (urticaria) resembling mites, beans, or scabies and tinea. It may be painful or itchy, occurring during times of sudden anger or slight intoxication, when sleeping exposed to wind and dew, or after bathing when the skin pores are open and relaxed, allowing wind pathogens to invade. Additionally, improper evil toxins combined with cold-dampness penetrate into the muscles, causing evil heat to knot in the couli (pores and interstices). The prognosis is ominous during rainy weather, with slight relief during sunny and warm periods, but the disease recurs frequently. Over time, lesions merge into patches and ulcerate, causing lung toxicity and damaging heart qi and blood. Treatment involves formulas such as Da Xiao Feng San (Great Wind-Expelling Powder), Xiao Zao Dan (Small Jujube Pill), and Yu Shu Dan (Jade Pivot Pill).
Another type is facial wind-tinea. Initially, it resembles scabies but is not a sore, and resembles tinea but is not typical tinea. It is often contracted in spring and autumn. Symptoms include itching, pain, or alternating chills and fever, gradually forming small sores that exude yellow pus with a foul odor. The discharge flows and sticks, turning the area into ulcers. The spread is rapid, named "Blowing Flower Sore" or "Blowing Flower Tinea." This condition mostly affects women. It arises because the lungs are scorched by fire, accumulating wind-heat, toxin, and filth. Yang pathogens ascend, manifesting on the face. If it appears between the eyebrows, the prognosis is poor. It tends to occur in those who are elegant, neat, and clean-loving; or in those who are irritable, stubborn, proud; or in those with latent yin-toxins; or in those who sleep drunk in the wind and dampness; or in those who indulge in pastries, fruits, greasy foods, and roasted or fried items. If further stimulated by yang-fire and thieving winds, the condition worsens. If not treated promptly, invasion by wind, fire, and dampness may transform it into leprosy (Li Feng), spreading into the scalp, becoming incurable. Urgent treatment requires clearing the heart, regulating qi, dispersing lung fire, expelling wind, resolving heat, and stopping pathogenic excess to eradicate the root cause; otherwise, recurrence is inevitable even if cured temporarily.
Another symptom is hoarseness or aphonia (loss of voice). The Lung governs sound, and the clear qi of the five zang organs penetrates the orifices to produce the five tones. When the body is warm and moist, yang qi is balanced, and the true voice flows smoothly. However, if wind-damp yin pathogens congregate in the yang divisions, stagnating body fluids and disrupting the airway, clear sound becomes blocked. The epiglottis serves as the gate of sound, and the uvula acts as the joint for phonation. If wind pathogens obstruct these gates, closing the mechanism (tuoyue), stirring up phlegm-fire, mild cases result in hoarseness and throat damage, while severe cases lead to muteness or aphonia. At this point, the fires of the five zang organs activate, and the Metal of the Lung is damaged and ruined. Treatment involves administering Jiuku Huisheng Dan (Bitter-Saving Life-Restoring Pill) and Duoming Huanzhen Dan (Life-Seizing True-Origin Pill), combined with herbs that cool blood, generate fluids, descend fire, dispel pathogens, nourish qi, and harmonize the lungs.
Conditions such as cold numbness, leaking hoof, toad-like swelling, walnut-shaped lumps, wind-water wind, and wind-heat eruption originate from the Kidney meridian.
