This condition arises from accidental scratching or touching the skin, causing sudden, unbearable extreme pain, similar to the sting of an oyster (a type of bivalve) in a summer cave. Over time, turning and moving causes pain that wanders and changes, as if muscles are being cut by a slanted knife, with incessant crying out; if it spreads over the entire body, it becomes incurable. This is caused by entering water after sweating, treading on ice, or walking on frost without fearing cold-dampness, leading to the flooding and burning of Heart Fire, the injection of toxins from the Lung Meridian into the Spleen collaterals, resulting in the inability of hair follicles to relax, the contraction and curling of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) with hair tips rolling inward and inserting into muscles. It should be treated with formulas such as Da Xiao Feng San (Great Wind-Expelling Powder) and Zao Ling Dan (Jujube Spirit Pill).
Feng Zhu (Wind Transmission, a contagious or lingering wind-pathogen disease): Legend has it that three years after death, a person's soul transforms into flying dust, attaching to others to cause illness. Symptoms include twitching and trembling of skin and flesh, unpredictable wandering of the disease, hair loss, neck and nape pain, emaciation of bones, joint cracking, eye pain, nasal soreness, tooth erosion, and stubborn bi-syndrome resembling an oyster sting.
In this condition, numbness, coldness, soreness, and shivering occur between the waist and knees, legs and elbows, shoulders and arms. Gradually, pain wanders and fixes, accompanied by spasmodic pulling and pain. Limb joints swell and become contracted and atrophic, making lifting the foot difficult. In severe cases, finger and toe joints ache sequentially. Commonly known as Gui Jian Feng (Ghost Arrow Wind), praying to gods only exacerbates the condition into a major illness. This is due to reckless desires, improper preservation, and contracting external pathogens. The Six Evils (Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire) devastate the body, causing blood depletion and qi decline. The Lungs govern the skin and hair, and the Liver governs the sinews. Injury to the Lungs and Liver leads to impaired circulation of blood and qi, also called Bai Hu Feng (White Tiger Wind). It frequently occurs between the elbows, knees, buttocks, and shoulder blades, known as He Xi Feng (Crane Knee Wind). When the pathology is confined to the joints, it is called Chan Zhi Feng (Entangling Limb Wind). When located in the limb joints, adults call it Zhuo Bi (Fixed Bi-syndrome characterized by heaviness and fixed location). Suitable treatments include Ding Feng San (Wind-Stabilizing Powder), Zhu Che Wan (Chariot-Stopping Pill), and Jiu Ku Hui Sheng Dan (Bitter-Saving Life-Preserving Pill).
This condition manifests as grayish-white patches on the body resembling old wall mud, appearing dull, dry, and lusterless, without pain or itching, often ignored by patients. However, this indicates muscle death and lack of nourishment. It stems from a naturally irritable and violent temperament, or excessive labor due to depression and anger, neglecting preservation and recklessly exposing oneself to the Six Evils. Cold-dampness and wind-toxins indiscriminately damage the zang-organs. Deficient fire rises competitively, attacking and weakening Lung Metal, manifesting externally as withered skin and hair, emaciated appearance, stagnant blood circulation, and flaccid paralysis of the hands and feet. If the whole body is affected leading to death, it is considered a malignant form of wind disease. Therefore, white manifestations in wind diseases are generally difficult to treat. They should be managed with formulas such as Bu Jiu Tang (Tonify-Antiquity Decoction) and Qi Xiao Dan (Miraculous Efficacy Pill).
