[Daquan] Women may deliver at seven or eight months of pregnancy, at nine or ten months, or even after one, two, up to four years. Each case should be treated according to the following methods.
[Lou] For those with premature labor desire, cool blood and stabilize the fetus. For those with overdue non-delivery, tonify blood and promote stagnation resolution.
[Xue] A pregnant woman at eight months felt the fetus was about to fall as if in labor. Resting in bed provided slight relief, but symptoms worsened in the late afternoon. This was due to deficiency of Qi and Blood. In the morning, she took Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with added Fuling (Poria) and Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome), which resolved the condition immediately. Subsequently, Shazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) was used for regulation, resulting in a stable pregnancy.
Jiyan Zhi Mu Wan (Collectively Effective Anemops Root Pill) Treats pain resembling labor before the due date; also treats difficult labor and fetal restlessness.
Zhimu (Anemops Radix) (Quantity as needed)
Grind into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a chicken head. Chew and swallow with warm wine, three times daily. Another prescription forms pills the size of a Chinese mustard seed, taken with porridge drink, twenty pills per dose.
Huai Zi Wan (Sophora Seed Pill) Treats pregnancy where the months are not yet full, yet there is abdominal pain resembling labor.
Huai Zi (Sophorae Fructus) Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) (Equal parts)
Grind both into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of Chinese mustard seeds. Take twenty pills with warm wine, until the pain stops.
Another prescription: Take Puhuang (Typhae Pollen) the size of a jujube pit, sift it, and take with well water (Jinghua Shui).
Another prescription: Take dust from roof beams and soot from the stove chimney, grind together into powder. Take one cun bi (a measure approx. 1 cubic inch) with warm wine on an empty stomach.
[Qian] Treats desire to deliver before the due date. Crush fresh roots of Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii) to extract juice, one to two sheng, and pour into the throat.
[Luo] Prescription for overdue non-delivery: Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with added Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Taoren (Prunus Seed), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Suosha (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), and Zisu (Perillae Folium). Decoct in water and take orally; delivery will occur.
[Daquan] When a woman’s Zang-Fu organs are harmonious, her Qi and Blood are abundant, and Wind pathogens or demonic influences cannot invade. If Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are deficient and damaged, spiritual energy weakens, allowing demonic essences to enter the Zang organs. The condition resembles pregnancy, hence it is called "Ghost Fetus" (Gui Tai).
[Xue] The aforementioned condition results from Seven Emotions damaging the Spleen and Lungs, leading to Qi and Blood deficiency, abnormal flow, and disharmony of the Chong and Ren vessels. This indicates insufficient Yuan Qi (Original Qi) and excess pathogenic Qi. If menstrual irregularities are observed, tonification and regulation should be initiated to prevent this condition. The treatment method focuses on tonifying Yuan Qi, assisted by drugs like Xionghuang Wan (Realgar Pill) to move and dissipate. If caused by Stagnant Qi rebellion in the Spleen Meridian, Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) is used for tonification. If due to Spleen deficiency and Blood insufficiency, Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) combined with Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome) and Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix) is used to nourish. If Liver Fire consumes Blood, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) is used to nourish Yin and suppress fire. If Liver and Spleen are depressed and angry, Jiawei Guipi Tang and Xiaoyao San are taken concurrently. If Kidney and Liver are weak, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used.
A woman had amenorrhea for eight months, with gradual abdominal enlargement, and complexion alternating between green and yellow. Medications for pregnancy were ineffective. Upon examination, I stated: Green complexion, choppy pulse, and alternating chills and fever indicate Blood pathology in the Liver Meridian. Yellow complexion, abdominal distension, poor appetite, and fatigue indicate Blood pathology in the Spleen Meridian. This is a condition of Spleen and Liver injury due to depression and anger, not a pregnancy. The patient did not believe this and continued using Taishan San (Mount Tai Powder) type medications without effect. I prescribed Jiawei Guipi Tang and Xiaoyao San, each administered for over twenty doses, after which symptoms slightly improved. Desiring rapid results, she took Tongjing Wan (Menstruation-Promoting Pill) once, resulting in bleeding, faintness, spontaneous sweating, aversion to cold, cold hands and feet, vomiting, and inability to eat. I administered Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Paojiang (Prepared Ginger Rhizome) for two doses, leading to gradual improvement, followed by fifty doses of Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction) to restore stability.
Xionghuang Wan (Realgar Pill) Treats Ghost Fetus in pregnancy, causing black blood to scatter and discharge with abdominal pain.
Xionghuang (Realgar) (Finely ground) Guijiu (Podophylli Rhizoma) (De-haired) Mangcao (Marsdeniae Vine) Dansha (Cinnabar) (Finely ground) Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (Skin, heart, and oil removed) Tategan (Lutrae Liver) (Roasted until yellow, half liang each) Xi yi (Sauri Carinatus) (One piece, roasted yellow) Wugong (Scolopendra) (One strip, roasted yellow)
Grind all into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of Chinese mustard seeds. Take two pills with warm wine on an empty stomach, twice daily. Diarrhea should follow; if not, increase to three pills. Initially, clear water is discharged, followed by countless worms resembling horse tails. In severe cases, snakes, insects, or substances resembling toad eggs, chicken eggs, white paste, or bean curd juice are discharged, and the disease is cured.
Prescription for Ghost Fetus in women and unbearable Qi and Blood stagnation.
Banmao (Mylabris) (Head, legs, and wings removed, stir-fried) Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) (Stir-fried, each 3 qian)
Grind into fine powder, then mill until powdery like flour. Mix with warm wine and take half a qian, until the fetus is expelled.
Prescription for emaciated women with Ghost Fetus masses and amenorrhea.
Take Yuanhua Gen (Genkwa Radix) (3 liang), cut and stir-fry until yellow, grind into fine powder. Take one qian mixed with Tao Ren (Prunus Seed) decoction, to expel foul matter.
[Bu Yi] Treats Ghost Fetus in women feeling like holding a jar.
Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizoma) Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) Bajitian (Morinda Officinalis Radix) Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (Oil not removed) Yuanhua (Genkae Flos) (Boiled in vinegar, 2 liang)
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Chinese mustard seeds. Take seven pills per dose with honeyed wine, expelling foul matter leads to recovery.
The above prescriptions all contain toxic drugs and should not be used lightly; they are preserved here merely as ancient formulas.
