[Xiong] Postpartum restlessness and thirst are suitable for treatment with Qingxin Lianzi Yin (Clear Heart Lotus Seed Drink). (Refer to the treatment of white turbidity in miscellaneous diseases.)
[Xue] If the aforementioned syndrome is caused by excessive blood loss leading to deficiency fire flaming upward, use Tongzi Xiaoye (Child's Urine), or Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), and Danpi (Moutan Cortex). If there is heat due to weak stomach qi, use Zhuye Guidang Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Angelica Decoction). If fever is caused by blood deficiency, use Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) added with Maimendong and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus). If fever and restlessness are caused by blood collapse (massive hemorrhage), use Danggui Buxue Tang (Angelica Sinensis Tonifying Blood Decoction). If stomach qi is extremely deficient, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) or Qiwei Baizhu San (Seven-Ingredient Atractylodes Powder). A certain puerpera suffered from the aforementioned syndrome, experiencing chills in the morning and fever in the evening, with abdominal pain that did not worsen upon palpation. I considered this to be a deficiency of both qi and blood, and treated her with Bazhen Tang and similar formulas. She instead used blood-invigorating and stasis-resolving methods, which exacerbated her fever and restlessness. I then administered Danggui Buxue Tang, after which the heat and restlessness gradually subsided. Subsequently, using Bazhen Tang, Maimendong, and Wuweizi, her qi and blood gradually recovered.
