For infants who are breastfeeding, if they are overfed, or if the mother continues to let them suckle while they are asleep, how can there ever be a sense of satisfaction? This leads to the Spleen's inability to transport and transform, and the Stomach's inability to receive and contain the excess milk, causing it to overflow and result in vomiting. If this persists for a long time, it may eventually develop into Slow Convulsion (a pediatric condition characterized by slow-onset convulsions). How can one not be cautious about this? For this syndrome, the best approach is to regulate breastfeeding; in severe cases, temporary weaning is advisable. First, the nursing mother should take formulas that regulate Qi, and the infant should take Xiaoru Wan (Milk-Dissolving Pill) to resolve milk accumulation and digest food, which is the optimal treatment. If milk flows out from the corners of the mouth, this is a sign of excessive milk that cannot be digested and overflows; it is not a disease, and one should not recklessly administer other anti-emetic drugs. Whenever vomited milk flows out directly without staying in the mouth, it is referred to as "Bulu" (milk regurgitation). Simply decoct Chao Maiya (Fried Malt) 3 qian, Juhong (Tangerine Peel) 1 qian, and Dingxiang (Clove) 3 fen in water and administer orally; the vomiting will stop immediately.
Xiaoru Wan (Milk-Dissolving Pill): Warms the middle jiao, relieves chest fullness, stops vomiting, and resolves milk and food stagnation. A deep pulse indicates injury from food stagnation and indigestion.
Ingredients: Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed, each 0.5 liang), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus), Shenqu (Massae Fermentatae Medicamentosa, stir-fried), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, stir-fried, each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with prepared snow ice water (or starch paste) to form pills the size of millet seeds. For children over seven years old, administer 30 pills the size of mung beans after meals, washed down with ginger soup.
Xiaoshi Wan (Food-Digesting Pill): Treats infants whose milk feeding and diet have been excessively cold, causing cold qi to accumulate in the Spleen and Stomach. The Stomach is the sea of water and grain; the Spleen grinds and digests food. When Stomach Qi is harmonious, milk and food are digested. If the Spleen is injured by cold, retained food fails to digest. This formula broadens the middle, promotes Qi movement, resolves milk and food stagnation, and corrects complexion.
Ingredients: Suosharen (Amomi Fructus), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, baked), Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma, baked), Shenqu (Massae Fermentatae Medicamentosa, stir-fried), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, stir-fried, each 0.5 liang), Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 1 liang, stir-fried).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with wheat flour paste to form pills the size of mung beans. After meals, administer 20 pills washed down with Perilla Decoction.
Another Prescription: Treats bulging/regurgitation in infants with vomiting of milk or green stools.
Usage: Take one zhan of breast milk from a young woman, add 10 cloves (Dingxiang) and 1 qian of Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium). Boil several times in a porcelain vessel. While slightly warm, apply with a cotton ball and suck orally on an empty stomach.
Qingzhou Baiwanzhi (Qingzhou White Pills): Treats all types of wind-phlegm syndromes and infantile convulsions.
Ingredients: Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, raw), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma, raw, each 3 liang), Chuanyutou (Aconiti Radix et Radicis Preparata, remove umbilical scar and skin, raw, 5 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, remove skin, raw, 7 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Soak the herbs in well water. Change to fresh water the next morning. Soak for five days in spring, three days in summer, seven days in autumn, and ten days in winter. Dry and grind into fine powder. Use rice porridge liquid (clarified glutinous rice starch) to form pills the size of mung beans. For infantile convulsions, administer with Mint Decoction. When taken together with Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pills), it is called Suqing Wan.
Banxia San (Pinellia Powder): Treats infantile vomiting due to Stomach deficiency, where water and food are not digested.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 liang, soaked seven times), Chen Nuomi (Glutinous Rice, aged, 3 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Cut into coarse pieces. Decoct with five slices of Ginger and one Jujube.
[Qian Yi] Tie Fen Wan (Iron Powder Pill): Treats excessive salivation, tidal convulsions, and vomiting/reversal.
Ingredients: Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum, ground with cinnabar sand until dispersed, 2 qian), Zhusha (Cinnabaris, 1 fen), Tiefen (Ferrum Pulveratum), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, processed, remove skin and umbilical scar, take powder, each 1 fen), Qingfen (Calomelas, 2 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients together until the mercury is completely dispersed into star-like particles. Form pills the size of millet seeds using Ginger Juice as a binder. Administer at any time, washing down 15 to 20-30 pills with Ginger Decoction.
Fuling Banxia Tang (Poria and Pinellia Decoction): Treats various forms of vomiting and hiccups, hardness and fullness in the epigastrium, dizziness and palpitations caused by phlegm-fluid in the diaphragm.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soaked in hot water, 5 qian), Bai Fuling (Poria, 2 liang, remove skin).
Preparation and Administration: Cut into coarse pieces. For each dose, take 3 qian, add one zhan of water and three slices of Ginger. Decoct, strain, and drink hot. Do not restrict the time of administration.
Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction): Treats disorders caused by phlegm-fluid, or vomiting and nausea, or dizziness and palpitations, or discomfort in the middle jiao, or alternating chills and fever, or disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach due to consumption of cold and raw foods.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed with hot water seven times), Juhong (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Rubrum, each 5 qian), Bai Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 1.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Cut into coarse pieces. For each dose, take 3 qian, add one zhan of water, three slices of Ginger, and one Smoked Plum (Wumei). Decoct together.
Baifu Yin (White Attitude Drink): Treats Liver Wind overcoming Spleen Earth, leading to abundant phlegm-saliva mixed with food and vomited up. Wind generates phlegm, and phlegm obstructs food, causing it to be vomited.
Ingredients: Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, raw), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, raw), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix, remove skin and umbilical scar, raw), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, clear and bright quality), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed), Nanmuxiang (Agarwood), Quanxie (Scorpio, remove tail tip poison), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, remove silk), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, each 2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the above ingredients into coarse pieces. For each dose, take 2 qian, add one and a half zhan of water and three slices of Ginger. Decoct slowly over low heat until reduced to 0.7 zhan. Divide into five doses and take warm on an empty stomach.
