Shilian San (Lotus Seed Powder): Treats pediatric Jin Kou Li (dysentery with anorexia and vomiting upon seeing food), accompanied by hiccups, inability to eat, and symptoms that cease but recur.
Herbs: Lotus seed meat (Qianren, removed of heart, stir-fried).
Usage: Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Take one qian each time, mixed with rice water for administration. Another method uses Chinese yam (Shanyao) ground into powder, taken with rice water, which is also effective.
Xiang Fu San (Fragrant Meat Preservative Powder): Treats pediatric "scraping intestine" dysentery (severe abdominal pain resembling scraping), Jin Kou anorexia, closed eyes and mouth, in critical conditions.
Herbs: Lean pork (one liang, sliced thinly), Nifen (Calomel, Mercurous chloride).
Usage: Slowly roast the pork over charcoal fire, then spread Calomel on it, roasting until it becomes a meat preservative. Give a small amount to the infant. If the infant refuses to eat, place it near the nose; the scent will naturally induce appetite. This formula treats toxic pathogens in the stomach, yielding miraculous results.
[Dan] Method of Modifying Breast Milk for Pediatric Jin Kou Li:
Herbs: Houpo (Magnolia Bark), Zhike (Immature Bitter Orange) (each 5 fen); Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Shaoyao (Peony Root) (each 0.5 liang); Huashi (Talcum), Mutong (Akebia Stem), Chenpi (Dried Tangerine Peel), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 5 fen).
Usage: Divide the above herbs into four doses, grind finely. Take seven peach kernels, add two and a half zhan of water, decoct to obtain one zhan of liquid, and have the mother drink it. It is advisable to empty the breasts of residual milk before administration for optimal effect.
Zhouhou Fang (Emergency Prescriptions from the Sleeve): For dysentery persisting for a long time, this is a formula for Xiu Xi Li (chronic intermittent dysentery).
Method: Take Longgu (Dragon Bone, fossilized bone), roast until yellow and scorched, grind, and administer one fang cun bi (approx. 5-10g) per dose, three times daily, for cure.
Another Formula:
Use four liang of Longgu, grind to the size of small beans, add five sheng of water, boil to obtain two and a half sheng, cool, and divide into five doses. Effective.
Song Bei Bing Zi (Pine-Baked Cake) from Bao Sheng Xin Xiao: Treats various masses, accumulations, qi stagnation, blood stasis, and other chronic conditions lasting ten to twenty years.
Herbs: Xi Mo (Fine Ink, baked); Yuanhua (Genkwa Flower, vinegar-soaked, stir-fried until scorched red); Qingmengshi (Blue Mica); Daji (Euphorbia Root); Ganqi (Dry Lacquer, stir-fried); Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung); Jing Sanleng (Burreed Tuber); Peng Ezhu (Turmeric Tuber); Miduoseng (Litharge); Chenjupi (Dried Tangerine Peel, pith removed); Muli (Oyster Shell, calcined) (each 0.5 liang); Badou (Croton Seed, one liang, peeled, wrapped in three layers of wet paper, burned until paper is charred); Da Ganzao (Large Jujube, fourteen, pitted, burned to retain nature); Baixiangding (Stork Dropping); Sha (Sand, ground); Mengchong (Blue Bottle Fly Larva, wings and feet removed); Banmao (Mustard Beetle) (each 1 fen).
Usage: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Use vinegar and wheat paste to make pills, sized like soap seeds, shaped into cakes. Record the causative dietary factor; decoct this factor or use wheat soup to send down one pill, chewing thoroughly before swallowing. The accumulation will gradually move downward. Re-administration causes further downward movement; another pill will expel the accumulation naturally. For routine unblocking, simply use wheat soup. Treats blood accumulations, masses, amenorrhea, chronic dysentery with pus and blood in adults and children, and chronic foul dysentery.
Yuming Dan (Jade Life Pill): Treats pediatric chronic red and white dysentery, unremitting chronic intermittent dysentery, abdominal borborygmus due to deficiency, progressive emaciation, loss of eyebrows, and pica (eating soil).
Herbs: Liuhuang (Sulfur, ground); Miduoseng (Litharge); Huangdan (Red Lead) (each 0.5 liang); Hanshuishi (Calcite); Baifan (Alum) (each ground to 2 liang, placed in a new clay bottle with five flavors, sealed with salt mud, fired until red-hot, then ground uniformly fine); Shexiang (Musk) (one zi, approx. 0.3g).
Usage: Grind the six ingredients uniformly. Make pills using steamed dough, sized like small mung beans. Take ten pills each time, administered with decoction of Wumei (Chinese Plum) and Gancao (Licorice Root). Adjust dosage according to age. Avoid raw, cold, toxic foods, and wheat products.
