[Zeng] "Jia" pain is caused by long-standing accumulation, resulting from the deficiency of both Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi). Externally, it contracts Wind-Cold; internally, it suffers excessive damage from milk and food. After prolonged stagnation, digestion fails, so pathogens merge into the Yin aspect to form "Yi". Yin is characterized by stillness, coagulating without movement. Pathogens merging into the Yang aspect form "Jia", taking shape resembling objects, moving ceaselessly. If untreated for a long time, it may develop into Spleen Gan Accumulation, or lumps like stones may appear between the two hypochondria, painful upon pressure but mild when untouched. Symptoms may include sallow complexion, emaciation, hard and distended abdomen with visible blue veins, daytime coolness and nighttime fever, irregular tidal fever, reduced intake of milk and food, and pica (craving dirt). Or there may be loose diarrhea, with the body feeling cold as ice during pain episodes. The treatment method should regulate the Spleen and nourish the Stomach, using Xingpi San (for Slow Convulsion) and Shenling Baizhu San (for anorexia). To resolve accumulation and treat Gan syndrome, use Huapi Wan (for Pi accumulation), Sanleng San (for retained food), and Muxiang Ezhu Wan (for retained food). For treating loose diarrhea, use Meishi Zi Wan (for diarrhea) and Chenxiang Binglang Wan (for Pi accumulation). However, this disease of stagnation cannot be cured in seven doses; sequential regulation is required, and it will naturally recover over time.
[Zeng] Initially, there is a small, elongated lump inside the abdomen, hard as an arm, winding around from the waist, shifting left or right. After a while, pain intensifies, becoming visible subcutaneously, yet not interfering with feeding. This condition arises because the exterior syndrome of a previous illness was not fully resolved, leading to premature and excessive purgation. This results in Qi deficiency, Cold binding, and郁结 (depression and accumulation). The treatment method should tonify Qi and address deficiency, using Shenling Baizhu San (for anorexia), Chenxiang Binglang Wan (for Pi), and Muxiang Ezhu Wan (for retained food). Alternatively, administer Shaoyao Tang intermittently (for Hernia) with added Renshen (Ginseng) and Fuling (Poria), decocted with water and fresh ginger.
For the treatment methods of Pi pain, see the Pi section.
Note: Yi, Jia, and Pi syndromes are largely similar with minor differences, and their treatments are not significantly distinct. It seems unnecessary to create separate names for them trivially.
The treatment for testicular hernia and unilateral descent is found in the Yin Swelling section.
The treatment for Cold Hernia is found in the Hernia section.
