Frequent sighing caused by the changes of Five Movements and Six Qi belongs to dryness pathogen damaging the Gallbladder. The *Classic* states: When Yangming is in the lower position, excessive dryness leads to frequent sighing. It also states: When Yangming qi prevails, there are sighs and vomiting of bitter fluid. Furthermore, when Shaoyin governs the upper position, the earth becomes dry and clear, causing a sense of desolation and frequent sighs accompanied by hypochondriac pain; this refers to the condition described. The *Neijing* indicates that for treating frequent sighing with moxibustion and acupuncture, points from the Heart and Gallbladder meridians should be selected. The text says: The Yellow Emperor asked why people sigh frequently and what qi causes it. Qibo replied: Thinking and worrying cause the heart vessels to become tense; tension in the heart vessels constricts the air pathways, leading to obstruction, so sighing occurs to relieve this. The treatment involves tonifying the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) and Hand-Jueyin (Pericardium) meridians, and retaining needles in the Foot-Shaoyang (Gallbladder) meridian. It also states: Patients with Gallbladder disease often sigh, have a bitter taste in the mouth, and vomit old bile; one should observe the sunken areas of the Foot-Shaoyang meridian pulse and apply moxibustion. Additionally, regarding the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder meridian, if it undergoes pathological changes, symptoms include a bitter taste and frequent sighing; treatment should be based on observing excess, deficiency, cold, heat, and sinking conditions.
Sorrow and grief belong to the Lung. The *Classic* states: In the five zang organs, it corresponds to the Lung; in the five emotions, it corresponds to sorrow. It also states: When essence and qi converge in the Lung, sorrow arises. Zhang Zhongjing stated: Women suffering from Zang Zao (Visceral Agitation) often feel like crying due to sadness, their symptoms resemble those possessed by spirits, and they frequently yawn and stretch. This is treated with Ganmai Dazao Tang (Licorice, Wheat, and Jujube Decoction). The prescription consists of 3 liang of Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix), 1 sheng of Xiaomai (Tritici Fructus), and 10 dates. Boil these in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng, then take warm, divided into three doses. Sorrow and grief caused by Five Movements and Six Qi belong to Cold-Water pathogen attacking the Heart. The *Classic* states: Insufficient Fire is called Fu Ming (Hidden Brightness); in the era of Fu Ming, diseases manifest as confusion, disorientation, sorrow, and forgetfulness, transforming according to Water qi. It also states: When Taiyang governs the upper position, Cold qi descends, and Heart qi responds upward, leading to frequent sorrow and yawning. Furthermore, when Taiyang governs and Cold pathogen prevails, patients tend to feel sorrowful and may experience sudden dizziness and collapse. If the counter-qi of Taiyang acts excessively and penetrates the Heart, it results in forgetfulness and easy sorrow; this is treated with hot-natured therapies. There are two approaches to acupuncture and moxibustion for treating sorrow: First, select the Heart meridian. The *Classic* states: Pathogens in the Heart cause heart pain, sorrow, and occasional dizziness and collapse; treat by regulating the Shu points based on excess or deficiency. Second, select the Jueyin meridian. The *Classic* states: The Jueyin meridian originates at Dadun (LR1), terminates at Yuying, and connects at Danzhong (CV17). Jueyin governs "closing"; if the closing function fails, qi is exhausted and sorrow arises. For sorrow, select the Jueyin meridian and treat based on excess, deficiency, cold, heat, and sinking conditions.
