[Xue Ji] Chi Bai You Feng (Red and White Wandering Wind), also known as erysipelas, belongs to the deficiency of Spleen and Lung Qi, with loose Cou Li (skin texture and pores), where Wind-Heat combats each other, or Cold closes the Cou Li causing internal Heat to be stifled. It may also result from Yin deficiency leading to stirring of Fire, allowing external pathogens to take advantage; or from Liver Fire combined with Wind-Heat, resulting in Blood Heat. Treatment methods: If it is Wind-Heat, use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root) and Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit). If it is Blood Heat, use Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Shan Zhi (Gardenia Fruit), and Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex). If Wind-Heat combats each other, use Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Powder for Resolving Toxins). If there is internal Heat and external Cold, use Jia Wei Qiang Huo San (Modified Notopterygium Powder). If Stomach Qi is weak, use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Fang Feng, and Xiao Feng San (Eliminate Wind Powder). If there is Blood deficiency, use Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If there is Yin deficiency, use Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia). If there is deficiency Heat of the Liver and Kidney, use Liu Wei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia); then the Fire will naturally subside, the Wind will settle, and the itching will stop. If one uses acrid-hot drugs to dispel Wind, the Liver Blood will become drier, the Wind-Fire more rampant, the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) more deficient, the Cou Li less closed, Wind guests will invade internally, Kidney Qi will be injured, Ming Men Fire (Ministerial Fire) will flare up, Blood will transform with Fire, making it difficult to treat.
A man developed wheals in autumn; this was due to deficiency of Yuan Qi and invasion by external pathogens. Initially, he took two doses of Jiu Wei Qiang Huo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction), followed by Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with added Qiang Huo and Fang Feng, which cured him. Later, due to careless living habits, he experienced night sweats, afternoon fever, dry mouth, expectoration of phlegm, body fatigue, and reluctance to speak. He was cured using Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) modified with Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill).
A woman had a body resembling Dan Du (Erysipelas); scratching caused pus and water to ooze profusely, accompanied by fever, thirst, and dizziness, worsening in the afternoon. She was cured using Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder).
Another woman suffered from Chi Bai You Feng (Red and White Wandering Wind), with evening fever and severe itching. I prescribed herbs to clear Liver heat and nourish Blood, but she did not believe in them. Instead, she took medicines for Leprosy (Da Ma Feng), resulting in arm pain and tendon contraction. She then took herbs to resolve phlegm and regulate Qi, ultimately dying from flaccidity of the four limbs.
Another woman with the aforementioned condition used wind-dispelling drugs multiple times, decocting them for washing, which led to abdominal distension and death.
A young woman had red halos like rosy clouds, with itching and fever. She was cured using Jia Wei Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Lian Qiao, and Mu Dan Pi.
Ru Bing San (Like-Ice Powder): Treats Wind-Evil and Heat-Toxin obstructing muscles, where Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive) Qi are not circulating freely, accumulating into swelling. Blood flow is sluggish, skin and Cou Li are damaged, presenting a shape like Erysipelas. Wind travels with Qi, wandering without a fixed location. The pathogenic toxin attacks, causing redness, heat, and pain.

Formula for Treating Red Wandering Swelling Flow, where the whole body is red, fatal if it enters the abdomen:
