Grind the above into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, with one sheng of water, add two slices of fresh ginger, decoct to 0.7 sheng, take warm. Alternatively, it can be taken by pouring boiling water over the powder. It treats Shanghan Wenyi (Cold Damage and Warm Epidemics), Fengshi Fengxuan (Wind-Dampness and Wind Vertigo), Juquan Fengtan (Spasm, Curling, and Wind-Phlegm), headache and vertigo, pain in the four limbs, aversion to cold with high fever, stiff neck and eye pain. It is suitable for both the elderly and children. It is indispensable in smoky environments, during plague epidemics, when there is much wind-phlegm, or in low-lying damp areas causing weak legs. Take two or three times a day, stopping when effective. For irritability, heat, and dry mouth, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
Guizhi Tang (Zhang Zhongjing)
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, each 3 liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 liang, honey-fried) Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 12 pieces, split open)
Cut the herbs into small pieces. Decoct with seven sheng of water using mild heat until three sheng remain. Filter the dregs. When the temperature is appropriate, take one sheng. Shortly after taking the medicine, drink more than one sheng of hot thin porridge to assist the medicinal power. Cover with warm clothing for about one hour until a slight sweat appears all over the body; this is optimal. Do not allow profuse sweating like flowing water, otherwise the disease will not be cured. If the disease resolves after one dose, stop subsequent doses; there is no need to finish the entire prescription.
