Zhike San (from *Ben Shi Fang*): Treats accumulation in the epigastrium, chest and epigastric stuffiness or pain, and frequent belching with a smell of rotten eggs.
Ingredients: Zhike (Bitter Orange Peel), Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (each 0.5 liang), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome) (1 liang), Binglang (Areca Seed) (2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with rice water. Take three times daily, at any time.
Zhu Danxi treated a patient from Xuanzhou. After administering the aforementioned formula, all symptoms were resolved, but the patient felt qi rushing upward to strike the heart and diaphragm, and belching was slightly relieved. Pulse diagnosis revealed the right Guan pulse was weak and short, while the left Guan and left Chi pulses were long, surging, large, and rapid. This indicates liver heat; therefore, it is appropriate to drain liver fire and tonify spleen qi.
Prescription: Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel) (1 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (2.5 qian), Mutong (Akebia Caulis), Gancao (Licorice Root) (2 fen).
Administration: Decoct in water. Administer with 15 pills of Baohe Wan and 20 pills of Yiqing Wan.
Belching is caused by fire and phlegm in the stomach.
Prescription: Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Ruangaozhi (Gypsum Fibrosum), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome).
