Nature: Neutral. Eliminates deficiency labor, treats malaria, resolves gu poison and toxic vapors. For medicinal use, it must be calcined before application.
Teeth (Ren Ya), Nature: Warm. When ground with black lice (Hei Shi) and applied topically, it extracts arrowheads and harmful splinters, and breaks down carbuncles and swellings.
Ge Zhichuan treated breast abscess (Ru Yong). He took human teeth, calcined them to ash, finely ground the ash, mixed it with butter (Su), and applied it to the abscess. Li Shiji treated retained arrowheads and harmful splinters by grinding teeth together with black lice and applying the paste.
[Nature]: Warm. Treats mania, delirium attributed to spirits, and alcoholism. Also known as Nao Gao or Ni Wan Zhi. (The above two items are newly categorized entries, see *Ri Hua Zi Ben Cao*.)
Nature: Cold. Primarily treats epidemic high fever causing manic running, resolves various toxins. The most thoroughly dried material should be used, pounded into powder. Mix with boiling water and ingest.
Green mud from a latrine pit facing east (Qing, pronunciation qing) treats throat obstruction (Hou Bi), reduces swelling, and if pus has already formed, promotes its drainage.
Tao Hongjing stated: The Li people in Jiao and Guang regions use arrows tipped with burnt copper to shoot people; death occurs immediately upon skin penetration, but drinking fecal juice cures it. Shooting pigs or dogs does not kill them because they consume feces. Epidemic high fever can also be cured by drinking fecal juice. Currently, temples near cities block empty jars and place them in manure pits; after accumulating for years, the resulting liquid is very dark and bitter, named Huang Long Tang (Yellow Dragon Decoction), which cures patients on the verge of death from warm diseases. The *Tang Bencao* annotation states: Human feces treat various toxins, specifically sudden severe heat, yellowing, suffocation, and impending death. Fresh feces are most effective and must be taken with water. Dried feces are burned until smoke ceases, soaked in water, and the juice drunk, named Po Guan Tang (Coffin-Breaking Decoction). It treats cold damage with heat toxicity; soaking in water and drinking is even better. To break open ding sores, apply fresh feces directly; within one day, the root rots. Chen Yuxi et al., according to *Ri Hua Zi*, state: Fecal clear liquid (Fen Qing), Nature: Cold. In the twelfth lunar month, cut light bamboo, remove the green skin, soak to extract the seepage juice. Treat epidemic heat mania, febrile diseases, poisoning, malignant sores, and mushroom toxins by ingesting the juice. Soaking soap pods and sugarcane treats epidemic febrile diseases.
*Waitai Miyao* treats pediatric yin sores by applying calcined ash. Another prescription: Treats bone-steaming heat; do not transmit casually. Take dry feces, burn until the exterior is black, soak in three sheng of water at night, and gradually reduce the dosage. Urine from a young boy is preferred. *Qianjin Fang*: Treats postpartum uterine prolusion. Stir-fry human feces until red, take one fangcun bi with wine, three times daily. Another prescription: Treats fungal toxin from mountain trees by ingesting fecal juice. Another prescription: Treats snake bites. Apply thick feces densely, then wrap with silk, which resolves the condition. Another prescription: Treats human mania where the patient does not recognize others. Calcinate feces to ash, take with wine. Another prescription: Treats "ghost licking head." Take infant feces, mix with pig fat from the twelfth lunar month, and apply. *Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*: Treats fatal back carbuncle. Calcinate feces to ash, mix with vinegar to form a paste, apply to the swollen area, replace when dry; this is excellent. *Doumen Fang*: Treats febrile diseases and epidemics characterized by mental restlessness, manic running, resembling epilepsy, and unstable speech that persists. [Process missing in source]: Remove after cooling, cover with a basin on the ground for half a day, grind finely like flour. Mix with fresh drawn water, take three qian. If fever does not subside, prepare again; cures. Yao's Prescription: There are three types of poisoned arrows: Those in Jiao, Guang, and Yi regions use burnt copper tips. Those in northern Lingnan use venomous insect juices stored in tubes to soak arrowheads. Both cause immediate death with suppuration and rotting upon skin contact. If struck, drink fecal juice and apply externally; this method is best. Another type uses [missing character] coated on arrowheads; victims become distressed. If it hits solid flesh without killing, urgent treatment is needed near the abdomen. The current Ge family prescription applies to those shot with [missing character]. Another prescription: For those afflicted by ghosts due to eating stagnant/rotten meat. Squeeze human fecal juice and drink several he. Also treats warm disease relapse due to overexertion or diet. Calcinate feces to ash, take one fangcun bi with wine. *Bowuzhi*: Fungi growing on maple trees cause uncontrollable laughter if eaten. Drinking soil slurry or fecal juice cures it.
*Yanyi* states: Human feces, using dry aged material ground into powder. Dig a small pit five to six cun deep in clean yellow earth in a shady place. Place three to two spoons of powder in the pit, mix evenly with fresh drawn water, wait for clarification, and administer to patients suffering from epidemic high fever, mania, and extreme thirst requiring water; this cures. Now commonly called Di Qing (Earth Clear). However, do not drink it excessively, as too much may be harmful. It also treats all carbuncles, boils, heat-toxicity swellings where pus and blood have not yet drained, and unbearable pain. Use half a qian each of dry powder and musk, grind finely together. Take an amount the size of a bean, apply to the center of the sore with saliva, secure with a coin soaked in vinegar; once pus drains, remove the medicine.
