Treats headache caused by alternating chills and fever, as well as Wen Qi disease (warm qi disorder). Using urine from a healthy young boy is particularly effective.
Tao Hongjing stated: If a person initially suffers from a headache, directly drinking several sheng of human urine often leads to recovery; adding scallion (Cong Bai) and fermented soybeans (Chi Dou Chi) to make a decoction is even better. The annotation in *Xin Xiu Ben Cao* states:
Human urine,
Mainly treats sudden blood stagnation attacking the heart, or internal blood stasis resulting from being beaten. Decoct and take orally; one dose is one sheng. It also treats abdominal fullness due to Zheng Jia accumulation (masses and accumulations), when other medicines are ineffective. After taking it, blood clots will be discharged, and they will come out within twenty days. It also treats chronic cough with rebellious Qi and loss of voice. Bamboo or wood found in urine pits mainly treats children whose teeth do not grow; scraping and applying them on the first day of the New Year promotes tooth eruption.
For skin fissures (Jun Lie), it can moisten and nourish the skin. For bites from snakes, dogs, etc., pour hot urine over the affected area. For difficult labor and retained placenta, take one sheng of urine, add one fen of ginger and one fen of scallion, boil for two or three boils, and drink while hot; the placenta will then be delivered. For hematemesis (vomiting blood) and severe epistaxis, mix with juice squeezed from one fen of ginger, and combine with one sheng of urine from a robust man; drink all at once while hot, and the illness will heal. Currently, according to Chen Cangqi's *Ben Cao*, human urine is cold in nature. It mainly brightens the eyes, enhances the voice, moistens the skin, benefits the large intestine, pushes out the old and brings forth the new, removes cough and fei wei (lung atrophy), and treats Gui Qi disease (ghost qi disorder). Urine that has been stored for a long time and becomes foul-smelling is superior. If afraid of cold, warm it by mixing with hot substances before taking. Long-stored foul urine can be used to soak spider bites by sitting in a large urn containing the urine; additionally, stir-fry black chicken droppings and soak them in wine to drink. Otherwise, there is a fear of poison entering the body. Saliva and spit from the mouth, taken from a person who has not spoken since dawn, applied topically are good for treating tinea and scabies.
Yang Shi's *Chan Ru Bei Yao* treats postpartum blood stasis causing heart and abdominal pain. Take urine from a young boy, drink two sheng daily until healed.
*Yan Yi* states: Human urine must be from a young boy. Drinking one cup warmed after childbirth helps suppress bad blood and foul matter. Some people drink it for seven days; excessive use may cause long-term coldness in the blood organs, leading to Dai Bing (belt vessel disorders), which people may not even notice. Those with deficient Qi and Blood without heat should especially avoid taking it in excess. This is because its nature is cold, so it is also used in formulas treating Re Lao (heat consumption).
Treats epistaxis (nosebleed) and burns/scalds.
The annotation in *Xin Xiu Ben Cao* states: Ren Zhong Bai (Urine Sediment), calcined and ground into powder, mainly treats tight-lipped ulcers. Ministers Yu Xi et al. respectfully note Ri Hua Zi stating: Ren Zhong Bai is cool in nature. It treats Chuan Shi Re Lao (transmitting corpse heat consumption), fei wei, heart and diaphragm heat, epistaxis, hematemesis, emaciation, and thirst diseases. This refers to accumulated urine sediment used as medicine.
Empirical Formula: Treats sweating blood and persistent epistaxis lasting five to seven days, with immediate effect. Take an unspecified amount of Ren Zhong Bai, scrape it onto a new tile, dry it with fire, grind it finely, add a small amount of Moshe (Musk), and swallow with wine. Another formula: Qiu Shi Huan Yuan Dan (Autumn Stone Restoring Origin Pill): Greatly tonifies, warm in nature. Enhances complexion and appetite, benefits the lower yuan. Long-term use eliminates hundred diseases, strengthens bone marrow, tonifies essence and blood, opens the mind and benefits willpower. Method for refining Ren Zhong Bai: Ten shi of male urine, more is acceptable. First prepare a large stove and pot set in an empty room. Place a deep ceramic steamer (Zeng) over the pot mouth to elevate it. Use paper pulp mixed with forged stone powder to mud-seal the seams of the steamer and the pot mouth, ensuring no ventilation. Once dry, pour in the urine, filling the pot only to seven or eight parts. Boil using flame under the stove. Have someone watch specifically; if it surges up, add a little cold urine. Do not let it surge. Once dried, grind finely, put into a good container, seal according to method, and place in a charcoal furnace to calcine. Take three or two liang periodically, grind again into powder, mix with boiled jujube pulp to form pills the size of mung beans. Take five to seven pills per dose, gradually increasing to fifteen pills, taken on an empty stomach with warm wine or salt water. Long-term use keeps the area below the navel constantly warm like fire, curing various cold diseases. Even those severely suffering from long-term cold consumption and deficiency will become robust after taking it. Keep the medicinal powder near fire for storage, occasionally re-heating for three to five days, greatly enhancing efficacy.
