On the Chou day of the seventh lunar month, take the soil from the stove to plaster the stove; this will bring wealth and honor. Do not let others know.
Grind the Fulonggan (Stove Earth) into powder, mix with strong vinegar, and apply externally to sores caused by earthworms and various venomous insect bites.
It is indicated for difficult labor. Take one he of Fulonggan, half sheng of flour, and twenty black soybeans; boil them, extract the juice, and ingest it.
Non-toxic. It treats chronic cough. Take the soil from a stove that has been used for smoke and fire for many years, brush off the surface dust, and mix it with Shi Huang (Realgar), Kuandonghua (Tussilago Flower), and menstrual cloths of women into a fine powder. Mix with water, apply onto straw, wait until dry, place in a bamboo tube, ignite one end, inhale the smoke into the throat through the mouth, and swallow repeatedly. There is no case that cannot be cured.
Guai Yue: Sheep digging in the soil will reveal it; do not touch it. It has already been classified under the Upper Section of Earth. Earth possesses Qi; touching it causes yellow complexion, Qi rebellion, and body swelling. Be cautious when excavating soil, as it often breaks the Earth Veins (D Mai), which is taboo among the ancients. Underground voids cause people to move residences.
Added in Jiyou Year: Bencao Yan Yi (Supplement to Materia Medica)
Pungent, slightly warm. Treats metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), hematemesis, hematochezia/melena, stops cough and Qi rebellion, stops bleeding, and dissipates carbuncles and toxic heat.
Tao Hongjing said: This is the yellow earth beneath the pot in the center of the stove. Grind and sieve it, mix with garlic, and apply externally to carbuncles; it is very effective. Because there is a spirit in the stove, it is called Fulonggan (Hidden Dragon Liver). This is also a circumlocution for its name. Nowadays, people also use salt soil fragments from Guangzhou to treat leaking blood and blood stasis; this is also earth close to the source, sharing the meaning of being subjected to fire.
Ministers Yuxi et al. according to Yao Xing Lun state: Fulonggan can be used alone; it is salty and non-toxic. Powder mixed with vinegar applied externally to carbuncles and swelling. Xiao Bing said: Ink from the bottom of the cauldron is also known as ink from the belly button of the cauldron. Chen Cangqi said: Soil from the stove and soil from four-way intersections, ground into powder and given to infants to drink, wards off night crying. Ri Hua Zi said: Fulonggan is hot and slightly toxic. It treats epistaxis, intestinal wind, leukorrhea, metrorrhagia, spermatorrhea, hematuria, induces labor and expulsion of the placenta, and treats infant night crying. Tu Jing Ben Cao records this under the entry for Duan Shi (Calcined Limestone).
Lei Gong said: When using Fulonggan, do not mistakenly use ordinary soil from under the stove. This Fulonggan is formed by the accumulation of fire Qi within the stove lip over ten years, naturally congealing like a red stone, yellow in the middle, with an octagonal shape. After obtaining it, grind it finely, process it twice by "water flying" with talc water, dry it, wrap it in cooked silk, and place it back in the original stove lip at Zi hour (11 PM - 1 AM) for one Shichen (2 hours), then grind again before use.
Sheng Hui Fang: For treating infantile umbilical ulcers that do not heal for a long time, apply Fulonggan externally.
Wai Tai Mi Yao: Emergency treatment for heart pain, whether cold or heat syndrome. Take Fulonggan powder, decoct in water, and ingest one cun bi (measure of volume); if cold syndrome, ingest with wine. Another prescription: For treating carbuncles and swelling. Mix Fulonggan with garlic to make a paste, apply externally, cover with cloth; if dry, replace again.
Qian Jin Fang: For treating Feng Fei (wind flaccidity), sudden inability to speak, lockjaw, limb paralysis and stiffness: Take five sheng of Fulonggan, add eight sheng of water, stir and extract the juice for drinking; finishing it all is best. Another prescription: For treating various axillary odors. Burn Fulonggan into mud and apply externally; cure immediately. Another prescription: For treating ghost oppression causing unconsciousness, blow Fulonggan powder into the nose. Another prescription: For treating stroke with mental restlessness, confusion, abdominal pain and fullness, or temporary syncope followed by recovery. Take five sheng of soil from under the cauldron, grind into powder, mix with eight sheng of cold water, extract the juice and ingest completely. If the mouth is locked, force it open and pour in via a tube to ensure ingestion; it heals effectively. Another prescription: For treating fatal dorsal carbuncle. Mix Fulonggan powder with wine, apply thickly on the sore; change when dry; recover in a few days. Another prescription: For infantile sudden macroglossia (heavy tongue). Use soil from under the cauldron, mix with bitter wine (vinegar), and apply under the tongue. Another prescription: For painful swelling from moxibustion sores. Boil yellow soil from the stove in water until hot, and wash the affected area; this is excellent.
Qian Jin Yi Fang: For treating mania and epilepsy where the patient does not recognize others. Ingest one cun bi of Fulonggan with water, three times daily.
Zhou Hou Fang: For treating various ju (malignant sores), dorsal carbuncles, and breast diseases. Grind soil from under the cauldron into powder, mix with egg yolk, and apply externally; this is good.
Jian Yao Ji Zhong Fang: For treating infantile erysipelas starting from the umbilicus. Fulonggan is old yellow soil from under the stove; grind into powder, mix with rainwater dripping from the eaves to form a paste, apply to the affected area; reapply when dry, continue until healed. Mixing with fresh well water is also acceptable.
Guang Li Fang: For treating persistent hematemesis and epistaxis. Take half sheng of Fulonggan, rinse with a large sheng of fresh well water to extract the juice, mix with honey, and ingest at once.
Shang Han Lei Yao: For puerperal fever. Mix Fulonggan with water, ingest an amount equivalent to an egg, and take orally. Another prescription: For pregnant women suffering from epidemic febrile diseases to prevent miscarriage. Apply soil from under the stove mixed with water to the umbilicus; reapply when dry; mixing with wine is also wonderful.
Shi Quan Bo Jiu Fang: For treating retained dead fetus in the uterus where the mother's Qi is exhausted and the fetus will not deliver. Ingest three qian bi of Fulonggan mixed with water; the earth should emerge carrying the fetus head first; this is very miraculous.
Zi Mi Mi Lu: For infantile erysipelas migrans traveling up and down the body, which is fatal if it reaches the heart. Mix Fulonggan powder with egg white and apply externally; change when dry. Another prescription: For infantile urine ash ulcer. Mix Fulonggan with egg white and apply externally.
Chan Bao: For treating retained placenta. Take one cun of soil from under the stove, grind finely, mix well with good vinegar, insert into the umbilicus. Then ingest three to four he of licorice decoction; the placenta will be expelled.
Prime Minister Jia submitted the Cow Classic; for cattle suffering from blood disorders. Take two liang of yellow soil from the stove, one sheng of wine, decoct, cool, and drench the animal; it cures immediately.
Yang Shi Chan Ru: To treat epidemic diseases during pregnancy without damaging the fetus. Ingest Fulonggan powder mixed with water; apply to the umbilicus covering one cun square; change when dry.
Dan Fang Jing Yuan states: Fulonggan that has aged for ten years, dug out one chi deep below the stove, appearing as成片 purple porcelain, can be used. Fu Sha Suo He is excellent. He refers to tin.
Yan Yi says: For Fulonggan used for uterine bleeding, stir-fry one liang of silkworm feces, mix with half liang of Fulonggan and one liang of Ejiao (Donkey-hide gelatin), grind into powder, mix with warm wine, and ingest two to three qian on an empty stomach, until efficacy is observed.
This entry mentions Dong Bi Tu (East Wall Soil). Chen Cangqi said: Take the east wall soil because it is thoroughly dried. Upon detailed examination: The south wall soil represents the true fire of the sun, thus it treats plague and malaria. Some ask: Why not take the south wall soil at noon when the fire is strongest, but instead take the east wall soil at sunrise? At the time of fire generation, its Qi is vigorous. Thus, Su Wen states: The Qi of mild fire is vigorous. By noon, the Qi of fierce fire declines, hence it is not taken; this principle is actually applied here. Some ask: How do we know the sun is the true fire of the sun? Using a crystal lens or a concave bronze mirror to focus sunlight onto mugwort at the focal point ignites fire; thus we know this.
