[Bamboo Flesh] Salty in taste, warm in nature, highly toxic. Primarily used to kill three types of parasites (parasites), eliminate toxic pathogenic factors, and break down old blood stasis. After boiling in ash lye three times and refining thoroughly, it can be consumed like ordinary vegetables. If not sufficiently refined, it will pierce the throat causing bleeding, and nails on hands and feet will completely detach. It grows on branches of bitter bamboo, resembling an egg or a piece of meat. It is believed to have other therapeutic effects, though these are not yet fully recognized by people. Also known as Bamboo Seed.
[Yellow Bamboo Shoot / Bamboo Maggot] Bitter in taste, slightly toxic. Primarily used to treat maggots in sores of livestock (cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, dogs, chickens). Crushed and applied into the sore, the maggots will emerge completely, with efficacy similar to that of Zao Li. Its leaves can kill maggots; people in the south call it Huang Sun. It is edible after boiling in ash lye; otherwise, it will pierce the throat. This type of bamboo grows in clumps, comprising various non-uniform species. Zhang Ding stated in *Dietary Therapy*: When Ci Bamboo encounters rain in summer, dripping juice falls to the ground and sprouts, resembling deer antlers, white in color. Taken, washed, and eaten with ginger and soy sauce, it effectively treats all types of bloody and white dysentery.
[Tiger Subtree Tung] Highly toxic. Pressed into oil, it is used to poison rats to death, and also rubbed on skin for treating scabies, tinea, insect bites, sores, and toxic swellings. Also known as Tiger Subtree Tung, resembling the Wutong tree, growing in mountains.
[Li Wood Related Substance] Slightly toxic. Primarily used to treat malignant sores, scabies, and tinea infested with insects. Ground into powder, mixed with oil, and applied topically. Produced in the valleys of Jiangnan; the tree resembles the Zelkova (Li) tree.
[Zhongnan Mountain Herb] Bitter in taste, warm in nature, toxic. Primarily used to treat abdominal accumulations and masses (zheng jia), constipation, promoting the elimination of stale matter and evil qi, and dispelling cold qi. It should not be taken lightly. It causes diarrhea leading to physical exhaustion. Grows on Mount Zhongnan, does not wither in winter; its seedlings resemble Da Ji, and its roots resemble Xi Xin.
[Rabies Bite Treatment] Primarily used for dog bites from rabid dogs. Decoct and drink the juice. Additionally, burn chopstick tips to ash and apply to Yan Kou Chuang (cracks at the corners of the mouth).
[Snake Bite Treatment] Leaves boiled for washing snake bites; can also be crushed into powder for topical application. A large tree. Produced in Jiangnan.
[Long Scabbard] Non-toxic. Primarily used for sudden onset of "Ghost Strike" (sudden collapse or trauma-induced conditions). Take two to three cun, burn to powder, and ingest with water. This refers to the scabbard of a long sword; the waist knife scabbard is superior.
[Spasticity Treatment] Highly toxic. Primarily used for wind-bi, hemiplegia, muscle and tendon spasm, paralysis, cutaneous anesthesia, pain, and coldness. Take branches and leaves, crush them, steam them in a large steamer until hot, spread on the bed, and lie upon them. Replace when cool. This draws out wind from between bone joints, resulting in profuse sweating. Follow with tonic medicines and gruel. Avoid wind, cold, and relapse due to overexertion. Grows in deep mountains of Jiangnan; leaves are long and dense, do not wither in winter, and are well-known to local mountain dwellers.
