The books and records cited in *Supplemented Annotations on Materia Medica* (*Bu Zhu Ben Cao*) include sixteen internal medical texts, which are cited the most. Herein, the names of the authors are selected, and their compilation principles are briefly described, attached to the last volume.
*Kaibao Xin Ding Ben Cao* (Newly Detailed Materia Medica of the Kaibao Era): (In the sixth year of Kaibao [973 AD], an imperial edict ordered Liu Han, Imperial Physician Attendant; Ma Zhi, a Daoist priest; Zhai Xu, Zhang Su, Wang [Name Missing], Wu Fugui, Wang Guang, Chen Zhaoyu, and An Ziliang, nine Imperial Medical Officials from the Hanlin Academy, to meticulously collate various editions of materia medica. They cross-referenced works such as Chen Cangqi's *Shi Yi* (Supplementary Additions), making numerous corrections to aliases and adding new entries. Ma Zhi provided annotations. Hu Meng, Vice Director of the Left Division and Compiler of Edicts, and Lu Duoxun, Hanlin Academician, were ordered to finalize the text. The work comprises twenty volumes. An imperial preface was composed, and it was block-printed at the Guozijian [Imperial Academy].)
*Kaibao Chong Ding Ben Cao* (Revised Materia Medica of the Kaibao Era): (In the seventh year of Kaibao [974 AD], an imperial edict stated that the classification of drugs explained in the newly determined materia medica was not entirely appropriate. Liu Han, Ma Zhi, and others were ordered to re-examine and revise it, resulting in many additions and deletions. Li [Name Missing], Hanlin Academician; Wang [Name Missing], Compiler of Edicts; and Hu Meng were ordered to review it again. Content attributed to Shennong was distinguished by white characters; content transmitted by famous physicians was printed in black characters. Including the table of contents, the work comprises twenty-one volumes.)
*Tang Xin Xiu Ben Cao* (Newly Revised Materia Medica of the Tang Dynasty): (Compiled under imperial edict by Li Ji, Grand Commandant and Duke of Yingguo of the Tang Dynasty. Initially, Tao Hongjing expanded the three-volume *Shennong Ben Jing* into seven volumes. During the Xianqing era, Su Gong, Chief Steward of the Gatekeeping Bureau, petitioned for revision. Consequently, Changsun Wuji, Grand Commandant and Duke of Zhao, Xu Chong, Imperial Physician Attendant, along with Su Gong and twenty-two others, extensively revised and defined the work into twenty volumes, now known as *Tang Ben Cao*.)
*Shu Chong Guang Ying Gong Ben Cao* (Expanded Materia Medica of General Yingguo of Shu): (Han Baosheng, Hanlin Academician of the Former Shu regime, along with various medical practitioners, cross-referenced *Tang Ben Cao* with its illustrated manuals, making deletions and revisions, slightly increasing annotations. Meng Chang wrote the preface himself. It comprises twenty volumes, now known as *Shu Ben Cao*.)
*Wu Shi Ben Cao* (Materia Medica by Master Wu): (Written by Wu Pu of Guangling during the Wei period. Wu Pu was a disciple of Hua Tuo. He compiled 441 substances for the *Shennong Ben Cao*. In the Tang Dynasty... [Text incomplete])
*Yao Zong Jue* (General Principles of Medicinal Properties): (Written by Tao Hongjing of the Liang period. It discusses the arrangement of drugs according to the five flavors and cold/heat properties, their therapeutic indications, and methods for harvesting and storing them by season. It comprises two volumes. Another edition is titled *Yao Xiang Jue*, without an author's name, and the text is similar.)
*Yao Xing Lun* (Discourse on Drug Properties): (Author unknown. It categorizes various drugs, distinguishing their properties, flavors, sovereign-minister-assistant-courier roles, and therapeutic effects. It comprises four volumes. One edition attributes it to Tao Hongjing. However, the recorded drug properties and functions contradict those in standard materia medica, leading to suspicion that it was not written by Tao Hongjing.)
*Yao Dui* (Drug Pairs): (Written by Xu Zhicai, Chancellor and Prince of Xiyang of the Northern Qi dynasty. It lists drug names and categories, sovereign-minister-assistant-courier combinations, toxic properties, and contraindications...) [Text incomplete]
*Shi Liao Ben Cao* (Materia Medica for Dietary Therapy): (Written by Meng Shen, Prefect of Tongzhou, Tang Dynasty. Zhang Ding supplemented 89 items lacking in the original work, bringing the total to 227 entries...) [Text incomplete]
*Ben Cao Shi Yi* (Supplementary Additions to Materia Medica): (Written by Chen Cangqi, County Magistrate of Sanyuan, Jingzhao Prefecture, during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty. Since the *Shennong Ben Jing* had supplementary collections by Tao [Hongjing] and Su [Gong]...) [Text incomplete]
*Si Sheng Ben Cao* (Four-Tone Materia Medica): (Written by Xiao Bing, a recluse from Lanling, Tang Dynasty. It arranges drug names from the materia medica by their initial character according to the four tones of Chinese phonology to facilitate lookup. It comprises five volumes. A preface was written by Wang Shou, former Jinshi.)
*Shan Fan Ben Cao* (Abridged Materia Medica): (Written by Yang Sunzhi, Medical Doctor of Runzhou and Military Attaché to the Jiedushi, Tang Dynasty. Because the drug categories recorded in various materia medica texts were too numerous and difficult to consult, he deleted non-essential items and drugs that were named but unused, compiling them into five volumes. The date is unknown, but it is suspected to be post-Kaiyuan era.)
*Ben Cao Xing Shi Lei* (Categorized Matters and Properties of Materia Medica): (Written by Du Shanfang, Medical Practitioner of Jingzhao. The author's era is unknown. He explained drug names by category, removed duplicates, and grouped together information on processing, mutual aversion, detoxification, incompatibility, and compatibility of various drugs, comprising one volume.)
*Nan Hai Pu* (Record of Medicines of the South Sea): (Author unknown. It miscellaneous records the counties and districts where southern medicinal materials are produced, as well as verified treatments for diseases, though somewhat disorganized. It seems to be the work of someone from the late Tang Dynasty, comprising two volumes.)
*Shi Xing Ben Cao* (Materia Medica of Food Natures): (Written by Chen Shiliang, Assistant Instructor of Medicine at Jianzhou and Deputy Captain of Peirong, Tang Dynasty. Recalling the ancient office of "Food Doctors," who treated diseases through dietary nourishment, he selected drugs related to diet from the *Shennong Ben Jing*, Tao Hongjing, Su Gong, Meng Shen, and Chen Cangqi, categorized them, and added his own comments. It also records formulas for food doctors and techniques for nourishing the zang-fu organs according to the five seasons. A preface was written by Xu Kai, Academician of the Jixian Hall.)
*Ri Hua Zi Zhu Jia Ben Cao* (Various Families' Materia Medica by Ri Hua Zi): (Written by a person from Siming during the early Song Dynasty's Kaibao era. The surname is unknown, only referred to as Ri Hua Zi Da Ming. The preface collects various families' materia medica...) [Text incomplete]
