Boil it; it treats wind-induced swelling and sores.
The juice of donkey dung treats sudden pain in the heart and abdomen, and various types of Zhu Wu disease (a condition characterized by mental confusion and abdominal pain caused by external pathogens or evil influences).
Donkey urine treats Zheng Xi (abdominal masses), persistent vomiting due to stomach reversal, toothache, and water toxicity.
Female donkey urine treats Zao Shui (a type of edema characterized by dry skin and scaling).
Male donkey urine treats Shi Shui (a type of edema characterized by limb swelling and heaviness); taking five he (a traditional Chinese unit of volume) at a time is effective. To distinguish between Zao Shui and Shi Shui: draw characters on a surface with donkey urine; if characters appear, it is Zao Shui; if not, it is Shi Shui.
Donkey milk treats pediatric heat syndromes, Ji Huang (acute jaundice), etc. Excessive consumption causes diarrhea.
Minister Yuxi et al. note according to the Shu edition: The taste is sweet, and the nature is cold and purgative. It treats Xiao Ke (polydipsia/diabetes-like symptoms). There are many colors of donkeys, with black ones being superior. Xiao Bing states: Donkey milk treats heat jaundice, pediatric heat, Jing Xie (startle syndrome), and red dysentery. Ri Huazi states: Donkey milk treats pediatric epilepsy, Ke Wu (illness caused by sudden fright), Tian Diao (a type of convulsive disorder), and wind diseases.
Filth from under the tail axis treats malaria. Wash with water to obtain the juice, mix with flour to make two pills the size of bullet seeds, and bake into flatbreads. Eat one pill before the onset of malaria and one during the attack; this treats both old and new malaria, regardless of whether there is a fixed schedule for attacks.
According to Chen Cangqi's Materia Medica: Urine and milk from black donkeys both treat spider bites. Soak the affected area in a container holding the urine; applying stinky mud from where the donkey urinated to the sore is also beneficial. If a house centipede enters the ear, instill donkey milk into the ear, and it should dissolve and flow out. (This entry was originally attached to the Tang edition.) Minister Yuxi et al. note according to Meng Shen: Donkey meat treats Feng Kuang (wind madness), sorrow and unhappiness, and can calm the mind qi. Additionally, remove the hair from the donkey head, boil the juice, and use it to soak yeast for brewing wine to expel severe wind pathogens. Furthermore, mix raw fat with raw Sichuan pepper, crush them together, wrap in cotton, and insert into the ear to treat chronic deafness. For those suffering from mania and epilepsy who cannot speak or recognize people, taking three sheng (a traditional Chinese unit of volume) mixed with wine is effective. Donkey skin is good for recurrent malaria. Additionally, decoct the skin and hair to make glue, which treats all wind toxins and incessant groaning due to joint pain; taking it mixed with wine is effective. Additionally, decoct donkey bones into a soup and bathe in it to treat Li Jie Feng (migratory joint pain). Additionally, drink two to three sheng of boiled donkey head juice to treat chronic Xiao Ke, with no failures reported. Additionally, mix donkey fat with dark plums to make pills; take thirty pills before the onset of chronic malaria. Additionally, for all wind pathogens in the head, stir-fry one jin (500g) of donkey hair until yellow, steep it in one dou (10 liters) of wine for three days. Drink slowly on an empty stomach until intoxicated, then cover with clothing and sleep to induce sweating. Repeat the next day as before. Avoid aged grain rice and wheat flour. Ri Huazi states: Donkey meat is cool in nature and non-toxic. It relieves mental restlessness and stops wind madness. Brewing wine with it treats all wind diseases. Donkey fat applied topically treats malignant sores, scabies, and wind-induced swelling. Donkey head juice washes away scalp wind and dandruff. Donkey skin, when decocted into glue and eaten, treats all wind diseases, epistaxis, hematemesis, intestinal wind bloody dysentery, and leukorrhea with bleeding.
Shi Liao Ben Cao records: For sudden heart pain with cramping radiating to the waist and umbilicus, take three sheng of donkey milk, heat it, and consume it for recovery. Wai Tai Mi Yao treats Fan Wei (vomiting after eating). In my youth, I suffered from this illness; whenever I ate cakes, soups, or porridge, I would vomit shortly after. During the Zhenguan era, Xu Fengyu and his brothers, as well as families like Chai and Jiang, were renowned physicians. They were ordered by the emperor to treat the illness but exhausted their methods without success. The patient gradually became emaciated and weak, facing imminent death. Suddenly, a guard suggested that drinking donkey urine was highly effective. Taking two he twice daily resulted in only half the food being vomited later. Taking another two he at dusk stopped the vomiting of porridge at nightfall. By noon, this was reported to the emperor. Five or six people in the imperial palace with similar Fan Wei symptoms took it simultaneously and recovered instantly. This medicine has slight toxicity; do not overdose. Collect urine generously and take two he while hot. For deep-seated illness, take it for seven days for good results. Subsequent treatments of others also succeeded. Another prescription: Abstain from alcohol. Burn the skin of a foal donkey to ash and take it with wine. Qian Jin Fang: Treats eye polyps. [Text unclear/corrupted: "Donkey notes two ends"] Take three times daily, recover in one month. Another prescription: Treats swelling of the body, hands, and feet; apply donkey fat mixed with salt. Jing Yan Fang: Treats excessive drinking leading to intestinal perforation. Scrape the hard part of the donkey hoof, decoct it strongly in water, cool the juice, and drink it. Xiangzhou San Jiang Le Xiaoman obtained this prescription and found it effective.
Dizziness, floating heat in the heart and lungs, weakness in hands and feet, painful joints, slurred speech, whole-body trembling. Take one black donkey head, wash it properly, steam until thoroughly cooked, cut finely, then boil in soybean paste juice. Season with five flavors and add a little butter when eating. Additionally, it treats Zhong Feng (stroke), inability to move hands and feet, painful joints, irritability, and facial paralysis. Take one black donkey hide, wash it properly, steam until thoroughly cooked, cut, boil in soybean paste juice, season with five flavors, and boil again. Eat on an empty stomach. Additionally, it treats Feng Kuang (wind madness), sorrow and unhappiness, and calms the mind qi. Take one jin of donkey meat, cut it, boil in soybean paste juice, season with five flavors, and eat after curing/marinating. Making porridge or boiling is also acceptable. Jian Yao Ji Zhong treats infants with open fontanelles (Jie Lu). Donkey hooves, any quantity, burn to ash and grind. Mix with raw oil and apply to the cranial sutures until healed. Guang Li Fang: Treats Heart Wind Heat Epilepsy. Warm and consume three large he of black donkey milk, twice daily. Shang Han Lei Yao treats Jaundice unresponsive to hundred medicines. Boil donkey head until soft, eat with ginger and vinegar relish, and drink the broth according to appetite.
Yan Yi states: Donkey meat induces wind when consumed, especially the fatty parts; this has been verified repeatedly. Ri Huazi's claim that it stops wind madness and treats all wind diseases is unreliable. When making glue from skin, the purpose is to disperse pathogens outside the skin; black donkeys must be used. The reason for using black is similar to using black chicken eggs, black snakes, or crows. Although these items treat wind diseases, they primarily utilize their black color associated with Water element, implying the principle of using Water to control Heat and thus prevent the generation of Wind.
