During childbirth, excessive effort leads to the failure of the uterus to contract and retract, as well as the prolapse of the vaginal orifice that cannot be withdrawn, accompanied by dribbling urination. One should simply administer Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) frequently, and wash externally with Cunjing San (Inch-Gold Powder).
Zhu Danxi stated: There are cases where a parturient expels tissue resembling a handkerchief, or a strip of fleshy cord.
Xue Lizhai said: Cases where a piece of the uterus falls out are all caused by deficiency and collapse of Qi and Blood. Simply taking herbs with ascending properties, such as Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), will allow it to heal itself. This is not comparable to diseases of the intestines and stomach; there is no serious harm, as flesh and blood can regenerate naturally.
Cunjing San (Inch-Gold Powder)
* Zishao Hua (Purple Tip Flower)
* Huluba (Fenugreek Seed)
* Shechuangzi (Cnidium Fruit)
* Zhangnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, Camphor)
(Each one qian)
Decoct the four ingredients in water for fumigation and washing.
Another method is to apply sesame oil to the protruding uterus, and blow powder from Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit (Yazao) into the nose to induce sneezing, which causes the uterus to retract upward (compare this with Prolapsed Intestine during Childbirth).
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (See previous section)
Postpartum intestinal itching is due to excessive blood loss or improper conditioning, resulting in dual deficiency of Qi and Blood. Wang Jingtai’s method involves placing a needle-and-thread bag under the parturient’s bedding without others knowing. Another method is to place arrowheads beneath the sleeping mat without the woman’s knowledge. Alternatively, heat salt, wrap it in a cloth bag, and apply it to the umbilicus to stop the itching; or administer Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) to nourish the body and bring peace.
Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction)
* Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (3 qian)
* Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (2 qian)
* Baishao (White Peony Root) (1 qian, stir-fried)
* Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) (0.5 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
This condition arises from the failure of communication between the Heart and Kidney, and Spleen deficiency failing to transport food essence. Even if there are minor pathogenic factors, they are all caused by insufficiency of Yuan Qi (Original Qi). In the aforementioned Qizhen San (Seven Treasures Powder), Shi Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), Xixin (Asari Root), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) must be used with discretion. If it is indeed caused by closure by Wind Pathogen, take one dose temporarily, then observe the disease origin and accompanying symptoms to treat accordingly. If worry injures the Spleen, leading to fatigue and poor appetite, Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) should be taken. If there is dual deficiency of Qi and Blood with internal heat, Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) should be used. If Spleen deficiency generates Phlegm, leading to vomiting, hoarseness, and poor appetite, Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) should be used. If Kidney Yin deficiency generates heat, manifesting as red face and floating fire, Liuwei Dihuang Tang (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) should be used. Following these methods to regulate according to the meridians will naturally lead to easy recovery. If one recklessly uses wind-dispelling and phlegm-attacking drugs, or aromatic dispersing drugs, the treatment will be far off the mark.
