Lou Xia (Metrorrhagia) is caused by fatigue damaging the blood and qi, resulting in deficiency and damage to the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). The Chong Mai and Ren Mai are the seas of the twelve primary meridians, both originating from within the Bao Gong (Uterus).
The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian govern the transformation of blood into milk upwards and menstruation downwards. When a woman's menstrual channels are harmonious, menstruation occurs on time. If damaged by fatigue, due to the deficiency of Qi in the Chong and Ren vessels, they cannot control the blood in the meridians; thus, blood flows out irregularly, dripping continuously, which is called Lou Xia (Metrorrhagia).
Upon palpation of the Cun Kou (Radial Pulse), if the pulse is Xian (Wiry) and Da (Large), Xian indicates reduction (deficiency), and Da indicates Kong (Hollow). Reduction implies Cold, and Hollow implies Deficiency. The combination of Cold and Deficiency results in a Ge (Leather) pulse. In women, this presents as Ban Chan (Miscarriage) accompanied by Lou Xia (Metrorrhagia). Furthermore, Xu (Deficient) pulses at both the Chi and Cun positions indicate Lou Xue (Bleeding from Metrorrhagia). If the pulse in Lou Xia is Fu (Floating), it is difficult to treat.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: If medication taken during pregnancy (less than three months) causes injury and bleeding, and sexual intercourse occurs while the bleeding has not stopped, pathogenic factors may knot together, causing Tai Lou (Threatened Miscarriage with bleeding) to persist. The discharge resembles rotting meat, remaining in the Zi Zang (Uterus), leading to internal deficiency.
The disease of Lou Xia (Metrorrhagia) is caused by fatigue damaging blood and qi, leading to deficiency and damage of the Chong and Ren vessels. The Chong and Ren vessels are the seas of the meridians, originating from the Bao Gong (Uterus); the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian govern the blood transforming into milk upwards and menstruation downwards. Deficiency and damage to the Chong and Ren vessels prevent them from restraining the menstrual blood, causing blood to flow irregularly and drip continuously. The five Zang organs all receive blood and qi; when deficient, they cause dripping and Lou Xia (Metrorrhagia), leading to damage of the five Zang organs. The colors of the five Zang organs differ according to the organ. If all five Zang organs are deficient and damaged, five-colored discharges will leak down along with the blood.
Palpation of the Chi position reveals an Ji (Rapid/Tight) and Xian Da (Wiry and Large) pulse, indicating that Wind Pathogen has entered the Shaoyin channel, causing women to suffer from Chi Bai Lou Xia (Red and White Metrorrhagia). Furthermore, if red and white metrorrhagia persists, a Xiao (Small), Xu (Deficient), and Hua (Slippery) pulse indicates survival, whereas a Da (Large), Jin (Tight), Shi (Excess), and Shu (Rapid) pulse indicates death. Additionally, if red and white metrorrhagia involves losing several dou of blood daily, an Ji Ji (Rapid) pulse indicates death, while a Chi (Slow) pulse indicates survival.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: If a couple argues and resentment remains unresolved, forcing sexual intercourse can cause the Zi Zang (Uterus) to become blocked, with stagnation forming pathology, eventually resulting in Huang Bai Lou Xia (Yellow and White Metrorrhagia) resembling paste.
