Jie (Scabies) presents in several types: there is Da Jie (Great Scabies), Ma Jie (Horse Scabies), Shui Jie (Water Scabies), Gan Jie (Dry Scabies), and Shi Jie (Wet Scabies). It commonly occurs on the hands and feet, and can even spread over the entire body.
Da Jie (Great Scabies) manifests as sores with pus discharge, accompanied by redness, itching, and pain.
Ma Jie (Horse Scabies) manifests as raised, uneven skin and flesh with hard roots; scratching does not elicit a sensation of pain. These two types are considered severe.
Shui Jie (Water Scabies) manifests as nodules resembling small vesicles; when broken, water flows out. This type is relatively mild.
Gan Jie (Dry Scabies) is characterized merely by itching; scratching causes the skin to flake and form dry scabs.
Shi Jie (Wet Scabies) manifests as small sores with thin skin, often exuding fluid. All these types contain parasites; people often find them using the head of an needle, and they resemble worms found in water. All of these are caused by the skin being invaded by Wind pathogenic factors and Heat qi.
According to *Jiu Chong Lun* (Treatise on Nine Parasites): Nictalopes (pinworms) are numerous and variable in their manifestations; they may cause Luoli (scrofula), Jie (scabies), hemorrhoids, and other conditions, doing everything possible. The treatments involving decoctions, moxibustion/heat application, acupuncture, and stone therapy have separate specific formulas. Tonification, nourishment, and Dao Yin (guiding and pulling) exercises are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) · *Dao Yin Fa* (Guiding and Pulling Methods) states: Long Xing Qi (Dragon Moving Qi) involves lowering the head and looking down, holding the breath twelve times. It cures Feng Jie (Wind Scabies), malignant sores, and heat that cannot enter the throat.
Gan Jie (Dry Scabies) only itches; scratching causes the skin to rise and form dry scabs. This is because the Wind-Heat pathogenic factor is deep, located between the muscles.
Shi Jie (Wet Scabies) presents as small sores with thin skin, often exuding fluid. This is because the Wind-Heat pathogenic factor is shallow, located in the skin.
The Qi of all Yang meridians resides on the exterior. When Yang Qi is abundant, the exterior becomes hot. Due to physical exertion or labor, the Cou Li (pores/cutaneous interstices) become deficient and open, allowing Wind pathogenic factors to invade. Wind and Heat contend and remain in the skin, generating sores. Initially, they appear as small vesicles exuding yellow fluid; if Wind predominates, there is itching; if Heat predominates, there is pain. If Blood and Qi are involved, there is much pus and blood, hence it is named Re Chuang (Heat Sore).
Any sores appearing on the body are caused by Wind-Heat. However, those with Blood deficiency are also susceptible to pathogenic factors. If additionally exposed to Cold-Wind, Cold Qi enters the sore, causing Blood stasis and obstruction. The sore becomes stubborn, leading to a loss of sensation of pain and itchiness, and heals slowly over a long period, named Leng Chuang (Cold Sore).
This Ju Chuang (Ju Sore) belongs to the category of Gan diseases, not the Ju of Yong Ju (carbuncles and ulcers). What the world calls Gan Ju is precisely this condition. It frequently occurs between the finger joints and the shins, growing symmetrically, densely forming fine pores like needle heads. There are parasites inside, causing itching and pain; scratching yields yellow fluid. It heals and recurs repeatedly. All of this is generated by Wind pathogenic factors lodging in the skin and changes in Blood and Qi. There are also cases where various superficial sores fail to heal for a long time; due to scratching from itching and pain, or friction from clothing, the sore fails to heal for a long period and transforms into Ju Chuang. There are also fine parasites inside.
