Generally speaking, wind diseases number four hundred and more. In summary, they do not exceed five types, which are governed by the Five Winds: one is Yellow Wind, two is Green (Blue) Wind, three is Red Wind, four is White Wind, and five is Black Wind. Within the human body, there are eighty thousand "corpse worms" (parasitic microorganisms), which collectively constitute the human form. Without these eighty thousand corpse worms, the human body cannot be established or maintained. Furthermore, there are various malignant and sudden illnesses; the various winds cause harm to the human body. It is said that the five winds generate five types of worms, which can harm humans. Black Wind generates black worms, Yellow Wind generates yellow worms, Green Wind generates green worms, Red Wind generates red worms, and White Wind generates white worms. These five winds are all malignant winds capable of damaging the human body, hence named "Disease Wind." When entering the Zang organs, they interact with the nutrients of the organs. Human worms are thus generated, countless in number, moving freely within the body, even penetrating into the bone marrow without obstruction. If they consume the liver, eyebrows and eyelashes will fall out; if they consume the lungs, the nasal bridge will collapse; if they consume the spleen, the voice will become scattered and unclear; if they consume the kidneys, tinnitus will occur, sounding like a faint buzzing or thunderous roaring; if they consume the heart, the heart will fail to withstand the irritation, leading to death.
A pulse that comes slowly and departs rapidly, with deficiency in the upper part and excess in the lower part, indicates Malignant Wind.
When the skin is deficient and折损 (damaged/broken down) by Wind Evil, raised wheals (Urticaria/Yin Zhen) appear. If heat is predominant, the color is red; if wind is predominant, the color is white. In severe cases, itching and pain occur, and scratching leads to sores.
When pathogenic qi lodges in the skin and encounters cold wind interfering with it, Wind Itch Wheals arise. If the wheals are red, it is due to cool dampness interfering with heat within the muscles, causing heat to knot and form red wheals. Symptoms worsen in hot weather and subside upon exposure to cold. If the wheals are white, it is due to wind qi interfering with heat within the muscles, where heat and wind fight each other. White wheals worsen during cloudy, rainy, and cold weather, and also worsen when exposed to wind. They subside in sunny and warm weather, and improve when clothing keeps the body warm.
A pulse that is floating and surging indicates that floating signifies wind, and surging signifies strong qi. When wind and qi fight each other, it causes hidden wheals and bodily itching.
The *Yang Sheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) states: One should not sleep outdoors or bathe while sweating, as this causes trembling, alternating chills and fever, and wind wheals.
This is caused by Wandering Wind residing in the skin. Encountering cold results in body pain, while encountering heat results in itching.
