Whenever a person is bewitched by spirits or demons, they tend to feel sorrowful and their mind becomes unsettled spontaneously. Sometimes their heart feels chaotic as if intoxicated, they speak wildly in fear and terror, weep before the wall, frequently suffer from nightmares or sleep paralysis,
or feel as though communicating with ghosts and gods. The patient suffers from alternating chills and fever, fullness in the heart and abdomen, shortness of breath, and inability to eat. This is caused by being held captive by evil influences (Gui Mei).
Those suffering from Leprosy (Da Feng) resulting in the loss of eyebrows and beard all contract it from wind-damp-cold pathogens. It may be acquired by entering water while sweating, or by cold water penetrating the body; or by drinking alcohol and lying on damp ground; or by sitting or lying under trees and on wet grass while exposed to wind; or by scratching itchy skin until sores develop, which fail to heal for a year, eventually becoming a wind disease. The winds from the eight directions can all act as pathogenic factors. When pathogens lodge in the meridians and collaterals and remain for a long time without departing, they interfere with Blood and Qi, leading to disharmony between Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi. Consequently, excessive pathogens scatter and overflow, causing a sallow complexion, damaged skin, collapse of the nasal bridge, and loss of eyebrows and beard.
The Northwest direction corresponds to the Qian trigram representing the Old Father. It is named Metal Wind (Jin Feng), also known as Black Wind, Whirlwind, or Biaofeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. This wind strikes suddenly and vaguely, often unnoticed, and after seven years, causes the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The East direction corresponds to the Zhen trigram representing the Eldest Son. It is named Green Wind (Qing Feng), also known as Zhongfeng, Chongfeng, or Xinglongfeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. This wind causes sores on the hands and feet, appearing at specific times, either in the morning or evening, and after five years, leads to the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The Northeast direction corresponds to the Gen trigram representing the Youngest Son. It is named Stone Wind (Shi Feng), also known as Spring Wind, Youfeng, or Luanfeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. This wind causes muscle hardness and numbness, with white patches resembling vitiligo or leprosy, and after ten years, results in the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The North direction corresponds to the Kan trigram representing the Middle Son. It is named Water Wind (Shui Feng), also known as Mianfeng, Wafeng, or Aofeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. Sores appear in spring and autumn, with itching sensations like insects crawling, moving unpredictably, and after ten years, causes the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The Southwest direction corresponds to the Kun trigram representing the Old Mother. It is named Cave Wind (Xue Feng), also known as Yinfeng, Lufeng, or Naofeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. There is no sensation of pain or itch, no sores form on the body, resembling true vitiligo, and after ten years, leads to the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The Southeast direction corresponds to the Xun trigram representing the Eldest Daughter. It is named Horn Wind (Jiao Feng), also known as Yinfeng, Lijiefeng, or Pangguangfeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. This wind involves three-colored parasites: red heads, white abdomens, and black tails. After three years, eyebrows and eyelashes fall out; if the parasites are expelled, the condition is treatable.
The South direction corresponds to the Li trigram representing the Middle Daughter. It is named Red Wind (Chi Feng), also known as Shuifeng, Yaofeng, or Jianfeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. This wind causes a wandering sensation in the body, mental instability, and changes in skin color. After ten years, it results in the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.
The West direction corresponds to the Dui trigram representing the Youngest Daughter. It is named Indulgent Wind (Yin Feng), also known as Quefeng, Mingfeng, or Qingfeng. Its presentation resembles acute illness. After one hundred days, internal steaming heat occurs, leading to the loss of eyebrows and hair.
