Malaria disease is caused by summer-heat injury in summer, where heat pathogens lodge in the skin. In autumn, these are constrained by wind pathogens, causing a struggle between Yin and Yang, resulting in alternating chills and fever, thus forming malaria. Generally, when a malaria attack is about to resolve, sweating occurs, leading to a reduction and depletion of body fluids (Jin-Ye). Furthermore, heat invades the Zang organs, causing them to become deficient and dry. After the malaria has subsided, if the Fu and Zang organs are not yet harmonized and body fluids have not recovered, internal heat and thirst persist, prompting excessive drinking. If this excessive drinking continues and urination becomes difficult and scanty, it may transform into Pi accumulation (abdominal masses).
Wind pathogens externally lodge in the skin, while internally, phlegm-fluids (Tan-Yin) soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and mutual overcoming between Yin and Yang. When Yang prevails, there is heat; when Yin prevails, there is cold. The Qi of Yin and Yang is invaded by pathogens; as pathogens interfere with healthy Qi (Zheng Qi), Yin and Yang struggle, appearing intermittently, resulting in alternating chills and fever.
Wind pathogens externally lodge in the skin, while internally, phlegm-fluids soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and struggle between Yin and Yang, hence alternating chills and fever. Additionally, heat invades the Five Zang organs, causing Qi stagnation that fails to diffuse, resulting in alternating chills and fever accompanied by vexation and fullness in the Five Zang organs.
Wind pathogens externally lodge in the skin, while internally, phlegm-fluids soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and struggle between Yin and Yang, hence alternating chills and fever. Since the Zang organs are inherently deficient and harbor old cold, when pathogens enter the Zang organs and contend with the cold, striking the Qi of the Zang organs, alternating chills and fever occur accompanied by abdominal pain.
Externally, wind pathogens lodge in the skin; internally, phlegm-fluids soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and struggle between Yin and Yang, thereby inducing chills and fever. If the organ Qi is originally solid but is further invaded by chills and fever, accumulated Qi remains inside, causing vexation, heat, and fullness in the chest, hypochondrium, heart, and abdomen, along with difficult defecation and scanty urination. This is termed Cold-Heat Excess-Stagnation syndrome.
Wind pathogens externally lodge in the skin, while internally, phlegm-fluids soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and struggle between Yin and Yang, leading to alternating chills and fever. The Qi of the Spleen and Stomach harbors inherent deficiency-cold. Although the exterior presents with alternating chills and fever, the internal cold is activated. Consequently, food fails to digest.
Wind pathogens externally lodge in the skin, while internally, phlegm-fluids soak the Fu and Zang organs, causing disharmony of Qi and Blood and struggle between Yin and Yang, thus inducing alternating chills and fever. The Stomach Qi harbors heat; heat promotes the digestion of grains. Once grains are digested, appetite is stimulated. This represents the struggle of Yin and Yang and disharmony of Qi and Blood. Because Qi and Blood are disharmonious, they cannot nourish the body. Therefore, despite alternating chills and fever and the ability to eat, muscle mass does not increase.
