Infertility due to irregular menstruation arises from wind-cold pathogenic factors invading the meridians and blood, causing menstrual flow to become obstructed and astringent. Blood coagulates in the uterus (Zi Zang), preventing the interaction and transformation of Yin and Qi, thus resulting in infertility.
Infertility due to amenorrhea is also caused by wind-cold pathogenic factors lodging in the menstrual blood. Blood flows freely when warmed but coagulates when chilled; therefore, menstruation ceases. Cold and hot blood contend and coalesce within the uterus, forming pathology and disrupting the harmony of Yin and Qi, leading to amenorrhea and infertility.
Prolonged amenorrhea not only causes infertility but, if blood accumulates and fails to dissipate, transforms into "Xue Jia" (blood mass). Over time, it forms hard masses, becoming a "Blood Disease." When blood and water combine, body fluids become congested and astringent. In cases of weak Spleen and Stomach function, water qi overflows and spreads, transforming into edema. Such conditions are difficult to treat and often prove fatal. The *Yang Sheng Fang* states: In youth or immediately postpartum, engaging in heavy labor can cause vaginal prolapse or deviation, resulting in impaired menstrual discharge, severe pain in the genital region, lower obstruction, and subsequent infertility.
Infertility due to a cold uterus results from improper care, unregulated diet, exposure to wind and cold, or excessive physical strain. These factors allow wind-cold qi to invade the menstrual blood and condense in the uterus, chilling the organ and causing infertility.
Infertility associated with leukorrhea stems from exertion damaging the menstrual blood. When this blood is invaded by wind pathogens, leukorrhea develops. This condition involves the mixing of white discharge with blood flowing downward. Since the pathology resides in the uterus and the interior of the Bao Luo (uterine cavity) is affected by pathogens, infertility ensues.
Palpation of the Chi position on the right hand behind the Guan position reveals that a floating pulse indicates Yang. If the Yang pulse is absent, it signifies a pulse pattern of infertility. Complaints of cold extremities are attributed to leukorrhea.
The accumulation of Qi in the five Zang organs is termed "Ji" (accumulation). The formation of Zang accumulations is caused by dietary indiscretion and excessive exposure to wind and cold. If the uterus is injured by exertion, accumulated Qi knots and contends within the uterus, disrupting the harmony of Yin-Yang and Blood-Qi, resulting in accumulation pathology and infertility.
The *Yang Sheng Fang* states: Intercourse before menstruation has completely ceased allows essence and Qi to enter the interior, causing menstrual irregularity and internal accumulation. This leads to sterility and the inability to bear children or nurse.
