This is caused by the presence of wind-heat pathogenic factors in the intestines and stomach. Generally, if the intestines and stomach are deficient and injured by wind-cold, diarrhea occurs; if they are excess with wind-heat, constipation and dryness result.
This is caused by deficiency-cold in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). The Kidney governs water metabolism and forms an interior-exterior relationship with the Bladder; the Bladder is responsible for storing body fluids. When Kidney Qi is weak, it cannot control body fluids, leading to deficiency-cold within the bladder (urinary bladder), causing water to flow uncontrollably, thus resulting in frequent urination.
The Bladder is the fu-organ that stores body fluids, and the Kidney governs water; these two meridians form an interior-exterior relationship. Water flows through the Small Intestine, enters the bladder to form urine. Currently, there is exogenous heat in the bladder; heat causes the fluid to become stagnant, hence difficulty in urination.
The Kidney governs water. In individuals suffering from exhaustion injuries, Kidney Qi is weak and cannot secure water, leading to deficiency-cold in the bladder. Consequently, after urination, fluid continues to flow, resulting in post-void dribbling. A pulse that is faint and fine also indicates post-void dribbling.
This is due to exhaustion injuring the Kidney, causing Kidney Qi deficiency and cold. The Kidney governs water and opens into the external genitalia, which serve as the pathways for urination and defecation. Cold in the bladder and damage to the Kidney cause the urine to appear white.
The Kidney governs bone marrow and stores essence. In patients with consumptive diseases, Kidney Qi is weak, resulting in a scarcity of essence. Upon diagnosing their pulse, if the Yin position at the middle cun of the left wrist is absent (indicating no Kidney pulse), the patient suffers from heat in the soles of the feet and tension in the inner thighs. This signifies the depletion of essence and qi, caused by exhaustion injury.
This is due to the decline of Kidney Qi. The Kidney stores essence, and its qi communicates with the external genitalia. Exhaustion leads to Kidney deficiency, preventing the storage of essence, so essence leaks out during urination.
This is due to Kidney Qi deficiency, causing the overflow of essence. Visual or auditory stimuli can disturb Kidney Qi. Since the Kidney should store essence, but is now too weak to control it, essence overflows in response to such stimuli.
This is due to Kidney Qi damage, failing to store essence, leading to essence leakage. Symptoms include tightness and urgency in the lower abdomen, coldness at the glans penis, pain in the eye sockets, and hair loss. Diagnosing the pulse as rapid and scattered indicates a pulse of essence loss. Generally, a pulse that is knotted, moving, faint, and tight indicates essence loss in men.
Kidney deficiency allows pathogens to invade; when pathogens reside in the external genitalia, it leads to dreams of sexual intercourse. The Kidney stores essence; now, due to Kidney deficiency, it cannot control essence, and the dream stirs it, causing emission.
In general, individuals with consumptive diseases have depleted blood and qi and weakened zang-fu organs, making them susceptible to pathogens. Pathogens enter from the exterior into the interior without a fixed abode, instead disturbing the zang organs. They wander aimlessly, traveling with Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) qi, and fly with the Hun (Ethereal Soul) and Po (Corporeal Soul), causing restless sleep and frequent dreaming. If pathogens disturb the fu-organs, there is excess on the exterior and deficiency on the interior; if they disturb the zang organs, there is excess on the interior and deficiency on the exterior. If Yin qi is excessive, one dreams of crossing large waters and feeling fear; if Yang qi is excessive, one dreams of great fire burning; if both Yin and Yang are excessive, one dreams of killing each other. Excess in the upper body leads to dreams of flying; excess in the lower body leads to dreams of falling. Being very full leads to dreams of walking; being very hungry leads to dreams of lying down. Liver qi excess leads to dreams of anger; Lung qi excess leads to dreams of fear, crying, and flying; Heart qi excess leads to dreams of joy, laughter, fear, and dread; Spleen qi excess leads to dreams of singing and happiness, though the body feels heavy and immobile; Kidney qi excess leads to dreams of the waist and spine feeling separated and disconnected. For these twelve types of excess, applying draining methods upon manifestation will lead to immediate recovery. If rebellious qi lodges in the Heart, one dreams of mountains and fire; lodging in the Lung, one dreams of flying and seeing metal, iron, or strange objects; lodging in the Liver, one dreams of forests and trees; lodging in the Spleen, one dreams of hills, marshes, ruined houses, wind, and rain; lodging in the Kidney, one dreams of facing deep abysses and drowning in water; lodging in the Bladder, one dreams of wandering; lodging in the Stomach, one dreams of eating and drinking; lodging in the Large Intestine, one dreams of fields; lodging in the Small Intestine, one dreams of gathering in towns and streets; lodging in the Gallbladder, one dreams of fighting, lawsuits, or self-mutilation; lodging in the external genitalia, one dreams of internal sexual activity; lodging in the neck, one dreams of beheading; lodging in the shins, one dreams of walking but unable to advance, while residing in deep earth; lodging in the thighs and arms, one dreams of bowing and rising with sleeves; lodging in the bladder/pelvis, one dreams of urination. For these fifteen types of deficiency, applying tonifying methods upon manifestation will lead to immediate recovery. By investigating these dreams and devising treatments accordingly, the disease cannot escape detection and cure.
