Whenever Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are severely deficient, the Zang-Fu organs are damaged, and the blood vessels are empty and exhausted, compounded by uncontrolled anger or excessive fright and indignation, violent Qi rebels and overflows. This causes the Couli (skin pores) to open and the blood vessels to scatter, resulting in bleeding from the nine orifices.
If accompanied by panting, coughing, and rebellious Qi, with a rapid pulse and heat, and an inability to lie down, it is a death sign.
The Liver stores Blood, and the fluid of the Heart is sweat. This indicates that both the Liver and Heart are injured by pathogenic factors, causing blood to exude from the skin and Couli.
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is the meridian of the Gallbladder, and its flourishing manifestation is in the beard; the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is the meridian of the Kidney, and its flourishing manifestation is in the hair. The Chong and Ren Mai (Penetrating and Conception Vessels) are the sea of the twelve meridians, known as the Sea of Blood, and their collateral branches ascend to the lips and mouth. If Blood is abundant, it nourishes the beard and hair, making them beautiful; if Qi and Blood are weak, and the meridians are empty and exhausted, failing to nourish and moisten, the beard and hair fall out. Regarding treatments with herbal decoctions, hot compresses, acupuncture, and stone therapy, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin (guiding and pulling exercises) are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) states: When sweating after eating hot food, do not expose yourself to wind, lest it cause hair loss.
It also states: When wishing to comb your hair, face the "Wang" direction (auspicious方位). Before beginning to comb, tap the teeth nine times, then softly recite the incantation: "Tai Di scatters spirit, Wu Lao returns to truth, Ni Wan Xuan Hua preserves essence for long life. Left holds hidden moon, right draws sun root; Six Harmonies purify, Hundred Deities receive grace." After the incantation, swallow saliva three times. Consistently practicing this prevents hair loss and promotes growth.
It also states: Frequently change combs; when combing, take more hair but avoid pain. You may also have an attendant comb your hair. Taking more hair ensures blood does not stagnate, keeping hair roots firm.
The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian has a branch passing through the Quepen point, ascending the neck, penetrating the cheek, and entering between the lower teeth. Whiskers are generated by Qi and Blood. If the Qi and Blood of the Hand-Yangming Meridian are abundant, whiskers are beautiful and long; if they are scarce, whiskers do not grow.
The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian belongs to the Kidney, which governs bone marrow, and its flourishing manifestation is in the hair. If Qi and Blood are abundant, Kidney Qi is strong; strong Kidney Qi fills the bone marrow, resulting in lustrous black hair. If Qi and Blood are deficient, Kidney Qi is weak; weak Kidney Qi leads to exhaustion of bone marrow, resulting in white hair. Regarding treatments with herbal decoctions, hot compresses, acupuncture, and stone therapy, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Washing hair on the tenth day of the first lunar month turns white hair black.
It also states: Combing hair a thousand times prevents head hair from turning white.
It also states: On the first day of the first lunar month, boiling five fragrant herbs into a soup for washing the head prevents hair whitening.
It also states: Bathing every ten days prevents head hair from turning white.
It also states: Bathing on the fourteenth day strengthens teeth and darkens hair.
It also states: On one's own Benming day (Zodiac birth year anniversary), before starting to comb hair, tap the teeth nine times and silently recite the incantation: Tai Di scatters spirit, Wu Lao returns to truth, Ni Wan Xuan Hua preserves essence for long life. Left holds hidden moon, right draws sun root; Six Harmonies purify, Hundred Deities receive grace. After the incantation, swallow saliva three times. Regular practice prevents toothache, keeps hair firm and black. Another version says it prevents headache.
The *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* states: Loosen the hair, sit facing east, perform Wogu (firm grip gesture), hold breath once. Raise hands and guide left and right, covering both ears with hands. Stroke the head five times with hands to unblock meridians. Treats Toufeng (head wind/pathogen) and prevents hair whitening.
It also states: Upon waking in the early morning, use both hands alternately to pull both ears upward from the top of the head; then pull the beard and hair to promote facial Qi circulation. Prevents head hair whitening and deafness.
It also states: Sit on the ground, extend both legs straight, touch the shins with fingers, and touch the ground with the head. Regulate the spinal vertebrae to benefit hair roots, promoting beautiful growth. Sit with legs extended one foot apart, grasp the shins, and touch the ground with the crown twelve times. Regulates the spine without harm, enriches Jing and Qi. Beautiful hair roots result in black, soft, smooth, and lustrous hair that rarely turns white.
It also states: Lie prone, loosen hair facing east, perform Wogu, hold breath once, raise hands and guide left and right, cover both ears. Turns hair black and prevents whitening. Prone position means knees on the ground, forehead touching the ground, hair loosened, bun undone, head stretched out and spread on the floor. Facing east represents the art of longevity. Wogu means hands clenched like an infant's fist, preventing Qi escape. "Bu Xi" means not exhaling; after extreme suffocation, exhale slowly three times ("Xu") and inhale deeply. One "Tong" is one repetition, filling the body's vessel with Qi. "Yin" means guiding out evil pathogens and latent Qi from the old body, hence called Daoyin. Raise left and right hands each once, cover ears, block nostrils three times, to eliminate white hair afflictions.
It also states: Squat, lift the five toes of both feet with hands, bow head to the extreme, causing Qi of the Five Zang organs to converge. Treats deafness and blurred vision. Long-term practice turns white hair black again.
It also states: Visualize Heart Qi spreading up, down, left, right, and center, appearing red, connecting Heaven and Earth, making oneself large and long. Increases strength and energy, turns white hair black, and regenerates lost teeth.
