This refers to wind-toxin and dampness stagnating in the Kidney Meridian (Shen Jing). The Kidneys govern the waist and feet; now that the Kidneys are affected by dampness, the feet become weak and swollen. If this person has excess heat in the Small Intestine, it leads to difficult urination, causing Qi to ascend upward. With foot weakness accompanied by ascending Qi, this constitutes Hongjiao Jiao (Hongjiao Jiao, a disease characterized by swelling and weakness of the lower legs and feet).
After vomiting and diarrhea from Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder), fever recurs after the diarrhea stops. In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if the pulse is faint and choppy, it originally belonged to Huoluan, but now it is Shanghan. After four or five days, when the pathogen enters the Yin meridians and transitions into Yin, diarrhea should occur. If the patient habitually suffers from vomiting and diarrhea, the prognosis is poor (intractable). If the patient feels the urge to defecate but instead only passes flatus without stool, this indicates the pathogen belongs to the Yangming stage, where stool will likely be hard. Recovery occurs after twenty-two days. This is because the meridian cycle has completed its course. After diarrhea, there should be hard stool; if the patient can eat with hard stool, they will recover. If they cannot eat now, but can slightly eat during the next meridian cycle, and can eat fully after passing one more cycle, they should recover on the day following that. If they do not recover, the pathogen does not belong to Yangming. Chills, floating pulse followed by diarrhea, and cessation of diarrhea lead to loss of blood (deficiency of Yin blood).
After an illness, pathogenic factors have not dissipated, and both Yin and Yang remain deficient. Engaging in labor causes the two Qi (Yin and Yang) to contend. When Yin prevails, chills occur; when Yang prevails, fever occurs. Thus, alternating chills and fever appear, occurring at intervals, forming Nuojue (Malaria).
This describes extreme thirst with drinking water, yet frequent urination. The patient previously suffered from Lao Sun (consumptive disease). After a major illness, deficiency of Kidney Qi generates heat; heat attacks causing Kidney dryness; Kidney dryness causes thirst; thirst leads to drinking water. Due to Kidney deficiency, water cannot be controlled; thus, drinking several sheng of water results in excreting several sheng of urine. This condition is named Kelii (Thirst-Diabetes).
After severe sweating, followed by purgation, body fluids are depleted, yet urination becomes surprisingly free. This is due to Upper Jiao deficiency failing to control the Lower Jiao. Deficient pathogens attack the Lungs, resulting in Fei Wei (Lung萎/Flaccidity Disease). The desire to cough but inability to do so, while spitting turbid saliva and foam, indicates Fei Wei disease.
Pathogens lodge in the Lungs. The Lungs govern voice and connect with Qi. Now, external pathogens struggle with True Qi. Since True Qi is deficient and pathogens are excessive, voice becomes obstructed.
Pathogenic heat attacks the Kidneys, causing Yin Qi deficiency. Yin Qi deficiency leads to dreams of sexual intercourse. The Kidneys store Essence (Jing). Now, Kidney deficiency fails to secure Essence, leading to seminal emission during dreams.
