凡被汤火烧者,初慎勿以冷物,及井下泥、尿泥及蜜淋拓之,其热气得冷即却,

On cold winter nights, exposure to wind and snow allows the pathogenic cold-toxin qi to invade the skin and muscles. This causes stagnation and obstruction of blood and qi, leading immediately to frostbite (frost injury). The affected area becomes red, painful, and swollen, forming a frostbite sore (chilblain). In severe cases, the skin and flesh may rot and ulcerate, and in extreme cases, limbs or joints may fall off.
During the midsummer months, human skin pores are open, making one susceptible to wind-heat pathogens. When wind-heat toxin qi combats with the skin, it generates "boiling sores" (a type of blistering sore resembling scalds). The appearance resembles boiling water. In mild cases, the lesions are dense like millet grains; in severe cases, hot sweat macerates the skin to form sores, hence the name. The world calls this "Feizi" (Boiling Seeds).
For those burned by boiling water or fire, one must initially be cautious not to apply cold objects, well-bottom mud, urine-mud, or honey to cover the wound. Because heat energy retreats upon contact with cold, driving it deep into the bones and rotting the tendons. Therefore, after being scalded by hot water or fire, patients often experience muscle contraction/spasm, which is precisely due to this reason.
After moxibustion sores have suppurated and ruptured, if swelling and urgent pain recur, this is caused by contracting wind-cold.
The principle of moxibustion is: stop when the disease is addressed; once the disease is cured, the sore heals. If the internal heat has not been eliminated, or if wind-cold is contracted, the sore will fail to heal for a long time.
Acupuncture and moxibustion target specific locations such as Joints, Shu-Points, Mu-Points, and Cuo-Points on the meridians. If the condition is severe, wind qi attacks the sore. Blood and Qi travel together; thus, when wind invades Qi and agitates Blood, blood flows from the moxibustion sore. If Qi is excessive, blood flow does not stop, a condition named "Fa Hong" (Erupting Flood).
Injuries caused by horse bites, trampling, puncture by horse bones, or trauma from horse reins, whips, and bridles all result in toxic sores. If swelling and pain lead to irritability and distress, it indicates that the toxin has entered the abdomen, which can also be fatal.
If a person with an existing sore rides a horse, the horse's sweat, dirty hair, feces, urine, and the leather saddle pad can all generate toxicity. Toxic qi enters the sore, causing swelling, pain, irritability, and fever. If the toxin enters the abdomen, it can be fatal.
When a dog bites a person, symptoms tend to flare up every seven days. If no flare-up occurs after three weeks (21 days), there is little cause for concern. However, one must wait until 100 days have passed to be fully safe. One should strictly avoid consuming dog meat and silkworm pupae for life; consuming these can trigger a fatal attack. During the period before the sore heals, raw fish, pork, chicken, and greasy foods are prohibited. It is best to abstain for a year. Even steamed fish served under rice or food eaten from greasy vessels can trigger recurrence. If a person who has consumed Malva verticillata (Okra/Leaf Mallow) is bitten by a dog, it is difficult to treat. Even if the sore heals, consuming Malva verticillata ten years later can still trigger a recurrence.
