For any wound caused by a dog bite, one should avoid eating *Malva verticillata* (Luokui) and dog meat. It is said that even if the wound heals, after one or two years, consuming these foods will inevitably cause a recurrence. The recurrence is indistinguishable from the initial injury. Such a recurrence of a dog-bite wound can cause madness and restlessness, with symptoms resembling those of a dog.
Regarding snakebites, one should not explicitly say "snake," but rather refer to it as "insect" (Chong), and also call it "earth rope" (Disuo), avoiding the direct naming of the creature. There are many types of venomous snakes, and their toxicity varies in severity. In April and May, bites often involve the green-striped bamboo viper, triangular-headed snake, Canghui, white-necked snake, and large lizard-like vipers; in June and July, bites may involve the Zhu Shou viper, Ai Fu viper, black-armored snake, red-eyed snake, yellow-mouthed snake, hooked-tail snake, white-necked snake, and triangular-headed snake. These are all highly venomous species; if not treated immediately after being bitten, death is common. There are also Chi Lian snakes, Huang Han snakes, and several other varieties, though medical texts do not record all their names. Black snakes found in water are called Gong Li. A similar species exists in mountains but rarely bites humans. There is also a Hook Snake (Goushe) with a tail like a hook, capable of dragging humans and animals into the water by force, drowning and devouring them. Additionally, in the south, there is a type of snake whose bite does not cause immediate death, but the snake will relentlessly pursue its victim for life, striking even amidst crowds of hundreds. Only fleeing more than a hundred li away can ensure safety. There is also a boat-shaped snake, seven or eight chi long, shaped like a boat; its bite is fatal. One can cure this by shaving wood from a boat, boiling it to make a decoction, and soaking the wound in it. Although there are many types of snakes, the Green-Striped Tail Viper and White-Necked Ai Fu Viper are considered the most toxic. If bitten by a large snake and not treated immediately, the entire body will become swollen within a day, with skin and flesh cracking and rotting; if bitten by a smaller snake, one may survive for two or three days. For any snakebite, the first priority is dietary restriction, and the second is medication. If neither is available, pre-prepared compounds containing Realgar (Xionghuang) and Musk (Shexiang) should be kept. Therefore, those living in mountainous areas should prepare these in advance. Furthermore, if bitten by a highly venomous snake, the patient will suffer from severe headache; this snake is named Black Emperor (Heidi). The wound will feel cold like ice, indicating extreme toxicity. Without treatment, death occurs within a day. If the headache is not severe, the snake is named Red Emperor (Chidi); its toxicity is milder, and the wound feels cold. Without treatment, death occurs after seven days. While a snakebite wound has not healed, hot food must be avoided; consuming hot food will aggravate the condition, and treatment should follow the protocols for an initial snakebite.
