The Kidney governs the waist and lower limbs. If its meridians are deficient, wind-cold pathogenic factors may invade, causing lower back pain; if cold qi enters the abdomen by taking advantage of this deficiency, abdominal pain occurs. Thus, the waist and abdomen pull each other in pain without cessation, which easily disturbs the fetus. Severe lower back pain may lead to miscarriage.
Abdominal pain during pregnancy is caused by pre-existing cold in the Bao Luo (uterine collaterals). During pregnancy, blood circulation becomes obstructed, and cold blood clashes with normal blood, resulting in pain. Severe pain also disturbs the fetus.
This refers to sudden injury or disturbance, or imbalance between cold and heat, damaging the fetal Qi, hence sudden pain. If bleeding from the vagina continues incessantly, it indicates miscarriage.
Hematemesis (vomiting blood) is caused by damage to the Zang-Fu organs. Worry, overthinking, fright, and anger all injure the Zang-Fu organs, causing Qi rebellion, thus leading to hematemesis. Hematemesis accompanied by chest oppression and fullness that does not cease, especially when severe chest oppression occurs, can be fatal. Pregnant women suffering from this condition often experience miscarriage.
Hematuria (blood in urine) results from labor injuring the meridians and generating heat. Heat invades the blood; when blood is heated, it flows excessively and seeps into the Bladder, causing hematuria.
Yang provides the active force, and Yin provides the transformative substance, allowing conception to occur. When Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are harmonious, menstrual nourishment is sufficient, ensuring the fetus remains stable and grows normally. If Qi and Blood are deficient, the Zi Zang (uterus) becomes occupied by wind-cold, leading to insufficient Qi and Blood to nourish the fetus, thereby causing recurrent miscarriages. Those who constantly suffer from lower back pain during pregnancy are prone to miscarriage.
In winter, extreme cold damages the body when it is deficient, resulting in Shang Han (Cold Damage disease). Mild cases present with aversion to cold, fever, slight cough, and nasal congestion, resolving after several days; severe cases involve headache, body aches, aversion to cold, and high fever. If prolonged, it also harms the fetus.
In winter, extreme cold damages the body when it is deficient upon exposure, named Shang Han (Cold Damage disease). Its manifestations include headache, body pain, and high fever. After recovery, if the body remains weak and has not fully recuperated, early rising or excessive consumption of cold drinks can cause the illness to recur as before, hence termed "Fu" (Relapse).
During the four seasons, sudden abnormal climatic conditions may occur: spring should be warm but turns cold; summer should be hot but turns cool; autumn should be cool but turns hot; winter should be cold but turns warm. These are climates inappropriate for the season. When such a climate arrives, no one escapes harm. Although severity varies by age, symptoms are similar, often involving toxic pathogens. Since this climate prevails universally at that time, it is called Shi Qi (Seasonal Epidemic Qi). Pregnant women exposed to it may suffer fetal harm, especially in severe cases.
