All meat from fine horses and the flesh beneath the saddle has toxicity and must not be consumed; ingestion leads to death. Ordinary horse meat, however, is non-toxic. Meat from animals that died due to epidemic diseases also contains toxins. This poison typically affects humans by causing severe diarrhea accompanied by mental restlessness and confusion.
The "Six Livestock" refers to cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, and dogs. The meat of these animals is inherently non-toxic and harmless. However, meat from animals that died naturally or succumbed to epidemics is toxic. Ingestion causes mental irritability, oppression, and uncontrolled vomiting and diarrhea.
In all cases where poultry, beasts, or livestock die naturally, their livers are toxic and should not be eaten, as they often cause harm. This is particularly severe for those dying from epidemics. Poisoning manifests primarily as severe loose stools, vomiting, and mental distress with restlessness.
"Toxicity from Stagnant Meat" (Yu Rou Du) refers to raw or cooked meat placed in a container with the lid tightly sealed, causing heat and vapors to accumulate without dissipating. Such meat is termed "stagnant meat," possesses toxicity, and can be fatal if ingested. Milder cases result in vomiting, diarrhea, mental agitation, and discomfort.
Dog meat is inherently hot and acrid in nature. Meat from dogs that died of epidemics or rabies is toxic; it is difficult to digest and induces feelings of toxic heat, mental oppression, and agitation.
Pork is inherently non-toxic. However, pork from wild or free-range pigs that died after consuming various poisonous substances becomes toxic. Ingestion causes toxic vapors to attack the internal organs, leading to vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, oppression, and restlessness.
Hunters often apply arrow poison (KT Yao) to arrowheads to hunt insects and deer; injury to the skin results in death due to the toxicity. If one consumes meat from such animals and fails to completely remove the poisoned flesh around the arrow wound, ingestion can lead to death. If death does not occur, it is because the consumed meat was far from the arrow wound, resulting in shallow penetration and lighter toxicity. Although not fatal, it still causes lethargy, mental oppression, vomiting, diarrhea, body numbness, and discomfort.
"KT Yao" is prepared by crushing fresh Aconitum carmichaelii root (Sheng Wutou) and extracting its juice.
Duck meat is inherently non-toxic and harmless. Occasionally, consuming cold-damaged food that fails to digest can lead to accumulation and formation of abdominal pathologies.
Any type of dried meat that has been wetted by rain leaking from old thatched roofs possesses high toxicity. Consumption may lead to acute syndromes after three days, which are incurable, or even immediate death. "Ji Fu" (a type of dried meat) remains stationary when roasted but moves when exposed to water; it is also lethal.
