Traumatic injuries cause the stagnation of Qi and Blood. Patients may present with unconsciousness, alternating chills and fever (Huan Lai Han Re), or symptoms that are milder during the day and heavier at night, with various complications. Ignorant practitioners who fail to examine the condition carefully and recklessly administer harsh remedies have caused many unnecessary deaths, which is truly lamentable. Treatment should be initiated promptly; if medical care is delayed until after half a month, the blood stasis will have solidified, and the water passages will be blocked, making treatment difficult. Since diaphoresis (Fa Han) is no longer applicable, one must carefully distinguish the syndrome and prescribe medication according to the severity. If the bruising changes from cyanosis (Qing Zhong) to redness, it indicates that blood circulation is resuming and recovery is imminent. If the jaw is locked (Ya Guan Jin Bi) and oral medication cannot be administered, there is no hope for survival. The patient should avoid wind while sitting or lying down and abstain from all raw and cold foods; beef causes tendon contraction, and pork may trigger disease onset, so both are inadvisable. In cases of severe trauma, undress and carefully inspect the entire body to observe the color and shape of the blood vessels and injury sites, and palpate the pulse to check for harmony. A pulse that is absent (Mai Jue Bu Zhi) indicates death, whereas a deep and fine (Chen Xi) pulse suggests survival. If the Shangen (root of the nose) is intact and the testes are present in the scrotum, the case is treatable. If the testes retract into the lower abdomen, it is untreatable. A fracture of the Dingmen (vertex) with sunken bone is difficult to survive. Injury to the Ximen (fontanelle) with extrusion of brain marrow results in immediate death. Tight pain in the chest and heart region where cyanosis covers the heart area indicates an eccentric heart injury, which is treatable. Redness covering the heart area indicates a central heart injury, which is untreatable. Cyanosis at the upper heart region leads to death within seven days. Injury to the lower abdomen sparing the umbilicus is treatable. If Yin and Yang Qi are disordered, with continuous diarrhea and inability to retain breath, the umbilicus is injured. Even if the esophagus is severed, if the patient survives two days after a full meal, it is treatable. Black nostrils, a swollen tongue, and coma indicate the exhaustion of Zang-Fu organs. The area behind the ears is a vital point; there is no remedy for spinal fractures. Breast injury in men is not severe, but in women, it is critical. Injury to the lower back where the patient can laugh indicates a poor prognosis. Lower abdominal injury is most contraindicated for pregnant women. The above outlines only the major points; the following formulas are listed.
Dang Gui Wei (Tail of Angelica Sinensis Root) combined with Sheng Di (Rehmannia Glutinosa Root), Bing Lang (Areca Seed), and Chi Shao (Red Peony Root) are suitable. These four ingredients serve as the main components, with modifications allowed as needed. Ru Xiang (Frankincense) and Mo Yao (Myrrh), along with Gu Sui Bu (Drynaria Fortunei Rhizome), are used for repair. For head injuries, add Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Root), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica Root). For chest injuries, add Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus), Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange), or Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel). For wrist and hand injuries, use Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Chang Pu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), and Hou Po (Magnolia Bark). For back injuries, use Wu Yao (Lindera Root), and Ling Xian (Symphytotrichum Root) is effective. For arm injuries, Xu Duan (Dipsacus Root) and Wu Jia Pi (Acanthopanax Bark) with Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) are used. For hypochondriac pain, Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root) is advanced, and Dan Cao (Gentiana Root) and Zi Jing Pi (Bauhinia Purpurea Bark) are employed. Da Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit) and Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit) with Du Zhong (Eucommia Bark) support the waist. Xiao Hui Xiang (Foeniculum Fruit) and Mu Xiang (Vladimiria Root) alleviate abdominal pain without doubt. For constipation, Da Huang (Rhubarb Root) and Zhi Shi push out the blockage. For urinary obstruction, Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed) and Mu Tong (Akebia Stem) promote urination. If significant swelling is present, Ze Lan (Lygodium Spore) yields miraculous effects. For leg injuries, Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Mu Gua (Chaenomeles Fruit), and Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) are used. For general body trauma, a specific formula involves drinking wine to capacity. Zhu Ma (Ramie Stem) calcined to preserve its nature, and Tao Ren (Peach Kernel) in abundance. Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower) is indispensable, and Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood) is also essential. This formula is truly excellent. It has been compiled into a poem. Mediocre practitioners refuse to pass it on, perhaps due to selfishness.
