Malaria has true and false distinctions; how can they be differentiated? Those with a fixed time of onset are **True Malaria** (Zhen Nian, genuine malaria); those with onset times varying early or late, day or night without any fixed schedule, are **False Malaria** (Jia Nian, pseudo-malaria). Although general treatment methods may apply universally, one must understand the specific pathology. Therefore, I have established a separate section to further distinguish them. For True Malaria, since efficacious prescriptions were previously transmitted in the preceding text, there is no need to create new formulas. However, symptoms of True Malaria often involve pathogenic influences consuming the body's qi. The prescriptions defined earlier were merely formulas rather than comprehensive therapeutic methods. I now further transmit the method of writing talismanic scripts for treatment, which is indeed extraordinary and extremely effective. I wish for you to widely disseminate this among the world. When this book is eventually printed, it is advisable to include it in the publication to manifest my heart of saving the world.
The Taiyi Talisman does not require incantations, but one must not make clicking sounds while writing the talisman. Use cinnabar to write the talisman in one continuous breath. Focus your mind on yourself while writing. Give this talisman to the patient to wear on the head, tie within the hair, or hide in the ear—all are excellent. However, beforehand, you must assist the patient in hiding it inside their clothing, within the hair, or in the ear. On that day, the malaria will absolutely not occur. For those unable to afford medicine, providing this talisman is the best method. After recovery on that day, burn this talisman in ginger soup, face east or towards the sunlight, and swallow it directly. It prevents recurrence with extreme efficacy. Do not regard this as ordinary. False Malaria cannot be treated in this manner. False Malaria arises because the true qi is not severely deficient, leading to a struggle between the healthy qi and pathogenic factors. Thus, when healthy qi prevails, pathogens recede; when pathogens prevail, healthy qi suffers defeat. Due to the fluctuation of qi mechanism, chills and fever arise and cease, resulting in irregular timing and lack of fixed signs. Tonifying the healthy qi while simultaneously eliminating pathogens yields results most easily. I now also transmit a formula named "Zhu Zheng Xiao Mi Decoction" (Assisting Healthy Qi and Eliminating Pathogens Decoction). This formula tonifies qi and blood, assisted by *Chai Hu* (Bupleuri Radix) to disperse pathogens in the half-exterior half-interior, along with herbs that resolve phlegm and digest food. With these agents present, where can pathogens lurk? Moreover, once healthy qi is strong, the host fights well; the gates are repaired, weapons are ready. Naturally, momentum expands, and thieves flee at the sight, making personal combat unnecessary. This is the method for treating False Malaria. Furthermore, I have another method to aid the poor who cannot afford medicine; my talismans can also expel disease, which I transmit to posterity.
□ Write this talisman inside a tea cup or water bowl; there is no need to write on paper and burn it. Consuming the talisman water should also be done without making clicking sounds.
