The treatment of Lao disease (chronic consumptive disease, often referring to pulmonary tuberculosis) should distinguish between lesions in the upper and lower parts. Overwork of the five Zang organs can all lead to Lao disease; why is it only divided into upper and lower categories? This is because when the five Zang organs develop Lao disease, it is either damage from the upper Jiao affecting the lower Jiao, or damage from the lower Jiao affecting the upper Jiao. Therefore, speaking of upper and lower divisions covers the symptoms of Lao disease in the five Zang organs, so there is no need to distinguish them meticulously by each organ.
What is the pattern of transmission from the upper to the lower part? Generally, it first damages the Heart, then injures the Lung; the Lung's condition transmits to the Liver; the Liver's condition transmits to the Spleen; the Spleen's condition transmits to the Kidney, leading to death. The external symptoms are as follows: palpitations, insomnia, coughing, expectoration, poor appetite, slight distension in the hypochondrium, continuous nocturnal emissions, tidal fever, and weakness in the feet and knees. When these symptoms first appear, tonifying Yang deficiency with a small addition of Yin-nourishing herbs will naturally yield effective results. Unfortunately, people do not know the correct treatment methods and recklessly use phlegm-resolving, Qi-descending, and harshly draining agents, stopping only when Lao disease is formed. If Lao disease has already formed, they fail to use anti-parasitic drugs within the context of major Qi and Blood tonification. No wonder patients become critically weak and near death. Out of pity for the world, I specially transmit the formula "Bu Shang Jiu Lao Dan" (Tonify Upper Rescue Lao Pill). Whether used at the onset or when the disease is established, urgent application of this formula can bring patients back to life. The name of this formula is "Bu Shang Jiu Lao Dan". Its subtlety seems ordinary but possesses miraculous efficacy. It incorporates a strategy of suppression and elimination (anti-parasitic/removal of pathogens) within tonification, thus achieving rapid results.
What is the pattern of transmission from the lower to the upper part? This arises from sexual exhaustion. It first damages the Kidney; the Kidney's condition transmits to the Heart; the Heart's condition transmits to the Lung; the Lung's condition transmits to the Liver; the Liver's condition transmits to the Spleen; the Spleen's condition still transmits back to the Kidney. The symptoms include initial body heat, bone-steaming fever (a sensation of heat emanating from the bones due to Yin deficiency), excessive sweating, leading to vague dreams and恍惚 (mental confusion), incessant expectoration, a sensation of hunger without actual desire to eat, pain that is not quite pain, hypochondriac distension, palpitations, diarrhea, borborygmus, inability to perform physical labor, and lack of strength. Over time, the patient becomes critically weak, bedridden, and unable to stand. If mistakenly diagnosed as Yang deficiency and Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) is wrongly used, it will inevitably cause Yang to flare up further while Yin is consumed, resulting in uncontrollable coughing with hemoptysis, spitting blood, epistaxis, continuous nocturnal emissions and spermatorrhea, persistent erection, soreness in the bone marrow, dizziness, and blurred vision. Various severe symptoms cannot be enumerated. Who knows that all these are caused by indiscretion in sexual activity? One must heavily employ Yin-nourishing herbs combined with vermifuge (anti-parasitic) ingredients to save the life and restore health. Otherwise, the patient is merely a walking corpse, destined to die soon. I now transmit a miraculous formula specifically for treating lower Lao disease, which indeed shows remarkable results, named "Zhong Chun Duo Ming Dan" (Revive Spring Snatch Life Pill). The subtlety of this formula lies in using Di Gu Pi (Lycium Bark) together with Bie Jia (Turtle Shell) and Di Li Fen (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Powder/Bamboo Potato Powder). Generally, Lao disease is never without internal heat in the bone marrow. Di Gu Pi enters the bones to clear deficient heat; Bie Jia penetrates every crevice; combined with Di Li Fen powder, it kills parasites where present, fills gaps where damaged, nourishes Yin when deficient, and subdues excess Yang. The combination of these three has profound rationale. Moreover, each ingredient is purely Yin-nourishing and Yang-restraining. When Yin is sufficient, how can Yang be unbalanced? This is why the formula is divine and versatile.
