After a child reaches several years of age, they may develop a craving for eating soil. People often attribute this to heat in the stomach qi, but little do they know it is due to the exuberance of Liver Wood. When Liver Wood becomes excessively vigorous, it overacts upon and controls Spleen-Stomach Earth, causing Earth deficiency that cannot withstand the control of Liver. The child seeks to supplement the Spleen and Stomach by ingesting Earth, hence the desire to eat soil when seeing it. The treatment method involves pacifying the exuberance of Liver Wood and tonifying the deficiency of Spleen and Stomach. Once Earth Qi is no longer deficient, the craving for soil will naturally cease. The formula used is Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with modifications.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria) (3 qian), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (0.5 qian), Chen Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel) (0.5 qian), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) (0.3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) (5 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) (0.5 qian), Bai Shao (White Peony Root) (5 qian), Huang Tu (Yellow Earth) (3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. After one dose, Liver Qi is pacified; after two doses, Spleen and Stomach Qi recovers; after four doses, the craving for soil disappears. This formula is originally a sacred medicine for strengthening the Spleen and Stomach. Huang Qin is added to clear Liver Fire, and Bai Shao is added to pacify the Liver. With the Liver pacified and Fire cleared, the Spleen and Stomach naturally receive nourishment. Particularly ingenious is the addition of Huang Tu, which borrows the Qi of Earth to calm the Spleen, catering to its preference. Moreover, the herbs in Liu Jun Zi Tang sufficiently enhance its function of promoting transportation and transformation.
When an infant at half a year or one to two years old suddenly develops large sores on the body, hands, feet, abdomen, arms, or face, which persist and transform into toxic pathogens, and all medicinal treatments prove ineffective, this is not the child's own toxin, but rather the toxin inherited from the parents. During conception, the mother may have been exposed to the malignant qi of yaws (chancre), or during pregnancy, she may have contracted fire pathogens from lascivious qi, thereby harming the fetus. If treated improperly, mortality is high, which is truly pitiable. I received transmission of a unique method from an extraordinary person and have treated dozens of children with fetal toxins, all of whom survived after taking the medicine. If I do not transmit this formula, I would not only betray the kindness of the person who transmitted it to me, Chen Shiduo, but also deprive salvageable children of aid due to lack of my prescription. In that case, the death of these children would be akin to me killing them. How dare I do so? Therefore, I prefer to disseminate it to the world. Even if people complain that it is sometimes ineffective, it must not be withheld, lest the world resent the lack of remedies to save their children. The formula is as follows:
Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) (2 liang), Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root) (3 qian), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (2 qian), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthes Root) (2 qian), Huang Yao (Polygonum Multiflorum Stem? *Note: Context implies a specific herb, likely referring to a local name or variant, kept as Huang Yao*), Jin Di Luo (Justicia Gendarussa Herb) (3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. After two doses, the toxin completely dissipates. If external wounds fail to heal, there is an additional external treatment formula:
Wo Niu (Snail), Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root) (3 qian), Bing Pian (Borneol) (1 qian), Er Cha (Catechu) (3 qian), Qing Fen (Calomel) (1 qian), She Xiang (Musk) (0.3 fen), Zhang Nao (Camphor) (3 qian), Huang Dan (Lead Monoxide) (3 qian), Shui Fen (Vermilion/Red Lead? *Context suggests a mineral powder*), Ku Fan (Alumen) (3 qian), Di Long Fen (Earthworm Excrement) (5 qian). Grind each into an extremely fine powder, mix with sesame oil, and apply to the wound. Within a few days, new flesh will naturally grow inside the sore, and the wound edges will contract externally. Truly a miraculous formula. Mild cases require only the internal formula without external treatment; severe cases benefit from combined internal and external therapy, ensuring rapid recovery.
From the perspective of benefiting future generations, I freely transmit this immortal formula. I wish the world to spread it widely, embodying my intent, and never arrogantly claim it as a secret wonder to be hidden away, thereby incurring heavenly retribution.
