A person bitten by a tiger, whether by teeth or claws, will inevitably bleed profusely. Generally, tiger bites occur mostly on the neck and nape, leaving deep holes—either two or four—which turn black almost immediately, accompanied by unbearable pain. Immediately plug the wound with raw lard; if lard is unavailable, use raw pork to fill it. The meat enters the hole and melts as it is packed in, preventing the injured flesh from rotting further. Then, hastily purchase half a jin (approx. 500g) of *Sanguisorbae Radix* (Di Yu, 地榆), grind it into powder, and apply it to the bite site to stop bleeding instantly. Subsequently, administer a decoction to quench thirst. Since tiger bites cause massive blood loss and tigers carry heat-toxin that directly attacks the Heart, severe thirst ensues. One must absolutely avoid giving water immediately; if desperate, urine may be given. Urgently prepare Tiger-Bite Decoction (Zhi Hu Tang): *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui, 当归) 3 liang, *Sanguisorbae Radix* (Di Yu, 1 liang, *Rehmanniae Radix* (Shengdi, 3 liang), *Astragali Radix* (Huangqi, 3 qian), *Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma* powder (Sanqi Gen Mo, 1 liang), *Ophiopogonis Radix* (Maidong, 3 liang). Boil in 10 bowls of water until reduced to several bowls. Allow the patient to drink freely. After finishing, the patient will sleep peacefully. On the next day, the wound will itch severely; administer another dose and let them sleep again. Continue this for five days until the wound heals completely.
This formula greatly tonifies Qi and Blood to generate tissue, adds *Sanguisorbae Radix* to resolve tiger toxin, and adds *Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma* to stop bleeding and close the wound. The ingredients are unremarkable, yet the therapeutic effect is miraculous.
A person bitten by a snake may suffer injury on the foot, head/face, or abdomen. The foot swells like a measuring cup, the face like a plate, and the abdomen like a winnowing basket. If not treated within three days, the toxin will attack the Heart, leading to death. Snakes are Yin entities dwelling in the earth. When they first emerge from their burrow, they have not drunk water, so their venom remains unresolved, making their bite extremely toxic. Treatment focuses on detoxification. However, snake venom is a Yin toxin; resolving it with Yang herbs exacerbates the toxicity. One must use herbs from the Yin aspect to dissolve the toxin, following its nature. Use Detoxification-Dispelling Powder (Qu Du San): *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Baizhi, 1 liang), *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* raw (Sheng Gancao, 5 qian), *Prunellae Spica* (Xiakucao, 2 liang), *Taraxaci Herba* (Pugongying, 1 liang), *Violae Herba* (Zihua Diding, 1 liang), *Alumen* (Baifan, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. Swelling subsides gradually after one dose; toxins are excreted through urination and defecation after two doses; full recovery occurs after three doses.
Although *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* is a Yang herb, it transforms into Yin when combined with *Prunellae Spica*. *Violae Herba*, *Taraxaci Herba*, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*, and *Alumen* are all detoxifying agents belonging to the Yin category. Yin herbs resolving Yin toxins naturally achieve efficacy, assisting *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* to attack snake venom without leaving residual harm. One might ask: if Yang herbs should not be used to resolve snake venom, why use *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix*? It is unknown that *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* is precisely needed to expel snake venom. People fail to use it properly, resulting in inconsistent efficacy. Now, using it among Yin herbs ensures effectiveness. Why abandon it for other drugs and risk ineffectiveness? Another question arises: *Realgar* (Xionghuang) also controls snake venom; why not use it? *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* contains Yin within Yang, unlike the purely Yang *Realgar*. *Realgar* achieves miracles externally but often fails internally. In contrast, *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* used within Yin formulas yields complete success.
A person bitten by a mad dog will likely develop mania, resembling madness. The common belief that a puppy grows in the abdomen is a misconception. The patient acts madly like a dog, biting people and harassing women, which is not due to a puppy in the womb. Moreover, after a mad dog bite, urination and defecation become obstructed simultaneously. Straining to void resembles difficult labor. External symptoms include acute pain and abdominal distension leading to death; people mistakenly attribute this to an inability to deliver a puppy. Claims of lower back pain being caused by the puppy biting inside are absurd. Actually, dogs go mad after ingesting poison or hot substances, such as carrion or corpses of those who died from febrile diseases. This transmits toxin to humans; even if the dog survives, the human may die. It is a terrifying disease. However, with proper detoxification methods, the illness can be swept away, and excessive fear is unnecessary.
Dogs have a hot nature. Madness results from eating hot foods, dead animals, or corpses of febrile deaths, causing "heat upon heat." Resolving this heat-toxin cures the condition. Ignorance of this method leads to failure. I received a unique prescription and dare not keep it secret; I transmit it to save lives. Use Life-Saving Immortal Elixir (Huo Ming Xian Dan): *Momordicae Semen* (Mubiezi, 3 pieces, sliced), *Mylabris* (Banmao, 7 pieces, stir-fried with aged soil, remove head and feet, stir-fry with a pinch of rice), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang, 5 qian), *Artemisiae Annuae Herba* (Liujinu, 5 qian), *Poria* (Fuling, 5 qian), *Moschus* (Shexiang, 1 fen). Grind each into fine powder, mix evenly, and take 3 qian mixed with yellow wine. One dose fully resolves the toxin. This is a divine formula; a second dose is unnecessary. Efficacy appears within seven days. Beyond seven days, multiple doses ensure salvation. Avoid sexual activity for two months during treatment. Also avoid "fa-wu" (stimulating foods); no other restrictions apply.
*Momordicae Semen* and *Mylabris* are used because dogs fear these substances most. *Momordicae Semen* is very cold and drains heat-toxin; aided by *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* to sweep it away rapidly, heat-toxin cannot linger. *Artemisiae Annuae Herba* promotes blood circulation and targets fluid pathways; assisted by *Poria* to promote diuresis more quickly, guiding toxin out via urine. *Moschus* also opens orifices, but here it merely moderates *Mylabris* and *Momordicae Semen*, allowing them to fight toxin with toxin. There is profound logic in this, not arbitrary usage.
