黄芩(各三分)

become pathogenic factors. Furthermore, using Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Fuling (Poria) to strengthen the Spleen and stimulate appetite, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) to soothe the Liver, and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) to interact with the Heart and Kidney, the Lung Qi will naturally calm down and descend; thus, there is no need for Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) to assist.
This syndrome can be treated with Zhuqi Sanbi Decoction:
Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (each 1 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) (each 3 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (2 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Ziwan (Asternis Radix) (each 0.5 qian), Huajiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 0.3 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Some individuals suffer from deficiency-cold in the Lower Yuan (Lower Origin/Essence) and are additionally affected by cold-dampness, resulting in heavy and painful lower back and kidneys, and weakness in both legs. People assume this is Shenbi (Kidney Bi-syndrome, characterized by heaviness/pain in the waist/kidneys and leg weakness). However, the formation of Shenbi is not entirely due to wind-cold-dampness. Although the Kidney is a Yin organ associated with cold, it inherently possesses Mingmen Fire (Ministerial Fire). With fire present, the water does not become cold, and wind-cold-dampness cannot penetrate. Regrettably, people exert themselves excessively, causing the congenital Essence-Water to flow away daily. As the water leaves, the fire flows away with it, turning the source of vital energy into a cave storing ice. The fire cannot resist the cold, allowing cold pathogens to invade. Cold qi enters directly into the Kidney Palace, attracting evil pathogens, and wind-dampness follows sequentially, generating Bi-syndrome. The treatment method does not require expelling pathogens but focuses on tonifying the Righteous Qi. Tonifying the Righteous Qi means tonifying the fire within the Kidney. However, fire does not grow without water; tonifying fire requires tonifying water. Yet, merely tonifying water may increase dampness; if dampness becomes excessive, wind-cold gains allies, and it may not be quickly dispelled, causing concern. Who knows that Kidney Water is water within fire; this is True Water, not Evil Water. When True Water declines, Evil Water flourishes; when True Water flourishes, Evil Water naturally declines. Therefore, tonifying True Water is sufficient to control Evil Water. Moreover, since there is fire within the water, what dampness cannot be removed? The most difficult to treat is Evil Water. Once Evil Water is eliminated, wind-cold disperses spontaneously without specific treatment. Use Shenbi Tang (Kidney Bi Decoction):
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Fuling (Poria), Yiren (Coicis Semen) (each 5 qian), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (each 1 qian), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) (0.5 fen), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix).
Decoct in water and take orally. After two doses, the waist feels light; after four doses, pain stops; after ten doses, both legs gain strength; after another ten doses, full recovery occurs.
In this formula, herbs tonifying water are few, while herbs removing dampness are many, yet none fail to tonify water. Tonifying fire within water prevents the fire from becoming too blazing; removing dampness within water prevents dampness from stagnating excessively. Once cold-dampness is gone, how can wind remain alone? Additionally, Fangji in the formula expels pathogens, so wind-cold-dampness are all eliminated.
Using Liqi Dan (Qi-Regulating Pill) is also effective for this syndrome.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (each 1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) (3 qian), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) (4 qian), Yiren (Coicis Semen) (5 qian), Poguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus) (2 qian), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) (0.3 fen).
