则弱,胜己者,则乘其衰,来兼其化矣。如少宫土运,木来兼化;少角木运,金来兼化;

In the Five Movements (Wu Yun), when a movement is excessive, it suppresses the element that overcomes it, resulting in "Qi Hua" (alignment transformation); when a movement is deficient, the element that overcomes it takes advantage of its weakness, resulting in "Jian Hua" (concurrent transformation). If an excessive movement is controlled by another factor, or if a deficient movement receives assistance, these are considered "Zheng Hua" (regular transformation) and indicate a balanced year. Among the Six Qi (Liu Qi), the years of Yin, Wu, Wei, You, Xu, and Hai correspond to Zheng Hua (regular ruling), indicating surplus qi; the years of Zi, Chou, Mao, Chen, Si, and Shen correspond to Dui Hua (counter ruling), indicating deficient qi.
[Annotation] The Central Movement (Zhong Yun) of the Five Movements governs the qi of the entire year. When the Central Movement is excessive, it is vigorous; the element that overcomes it fears its strength and instead aligns with its transformation. For example, in Tai Gong Earth Movement, it aligns with Wood's transformation; in Tai Jiao Wood Movement, it aligns with Metal's transformation; in Tai Shang Metal Movement, it aligns with Fire's transformation; in Tai Wei Fire Movement, it aligns with Water's transformation; in Tai Yu Water Movement, it aligns with Earth's transformation. This corresponds to the classic saying: fearing its vigor, it follows the same transformation, thereby thinning (weakening) what it does not overcome (i.e., the overcoming element). When the Central Movement is deficient, it is weak; the element that overcomes it takes advantage of its decline to assume its transformation. For example, in Shao Gong Earth Movement, Wood assumes the transformation; in Shao Jiao Wood Movement, Metal assumes the transformation; in Shao Shang Metal Movement, Fire assumes the transformation; in Shao Zheng Fire Movement, Water assumes the transformation; in Shao Yu Water Movement, Earth assumes the transformation. This corresponds to the classic saying: taking advantage of its weakness, it follows the same transformation, as the overcoming element thins it. In the Yang year of Wu Chen, Fire Movement is excessive; encountering Cold Water ruling from above (Si Tian), it is excessive but controlled. In the Yin year of Yi Mao, Metal Movement is deficient; encountering Dry Metal ruling from above, it shares the same qi. In the Yin year of Xin Mao, Water Movement is deficient; it receives assistance through mutual generation. All such cases represent deficiency receiving assistance. Whenever such situations occur, they are considered regular and balanced years.
The term "Qi" refers to the Guest Qi (Ke Qi) of the Six Qi, which governs the ruling qi of the year. For instance, Jue Yin Wind Wood rules in Si and Hai years. Since Jue Yin belongs to Wood, and Wood is born in Hai, the regular transformation (Zheng Hua) occurs in Hai, and the counter transformation (Dui Hua) occurs in Si. Shao Yin Ministerial Fire rules in Zi and Wu years. Since Shao Yin is Ministerial Fire, corresponding to the South Li position, the regular transformation occurs in Wu, and the counter transformation occurs in Zi. Tai Yin Damp Earth rules in Chou and Wei years. Since Tai Yin belongs to Earth, centered and prosperous in the Southwest Wei palace, the regular transformation occurs in Wei, and the counter transformation occurs in Chou. Shao Yang Ministerial Fire rules in Yin and Shen years. Since Shao Yang is Ministerial Fire, subordinate to Ministerial Fire (Note: text implies subordinate to Sovereign Fire contextually or distinct status), and Fire is born in Yin, the regular transformation occurs in Yin, and the counter transformation occurs in Shen. Yang Ming Dry Metal rules in Mao and You years. Since Yang Ming belongs to Metal, and You is the Western Metal position, the regular transformation occurs in You, and the counter transformation occurs in Mao. Tai Yang Cold Water rules in Chen and Xu years. Since Tai Yang is Water, and Chen/Xu belong to Earth, yet Water moves within Earth, and Xu is located in the Northwest, a region where Water gradually prospers, according to the Five Elements in *Hong Fan*, Xu is associated with Water. Thus, the regular transformation occurs in Xu, and the counter transformation occurs in Chen. Therefore, Yin, Wu, Wei, You, Xu, and Hai are Zheng Hua. Zheng Hua represents the reality of the command, indicating surplus. Zi, Chou, Mao, Chen, Si, and Shen are Dui Hua. Dui Hua represents the emptiness of the command, indicating deficiency.
