(From Liu Wansu's *Xuanming Lunfang*) Treats patients with excessive wind-heat pathogen stagnation, qi and blood constraint, and excess conditions in the exterior, interior, and Sanjiao (Triple Burner); also treats:
Fangfeng Radix Saposhnikoviae, Lianqiao Forsythiae Fructum, Mahuang Ephedrae Herba, Bohe Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, Chuanxiong Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Baishao Radix Paeoniae Alba, Dahuang Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Mangxia Natrii Sulfas, Baizhu Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Jingjie Perillae Folium, Heishanzhi Gardeniae Fructus (each 5 qian), Huangqin Scutellariae Radix, Shigypsum Fibrosum, Jiegeng Platycodonis Radix (each 1 liang), Gancao Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (2 liang), Huashi Talcum (3 liang). Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with fresh ginger slices. (Wang Ang in *Yifang Jijie* removes Dahuang and Mangxia, naming this formula Shuangjie San.)
Fangfeng Tongsheng San is a modification of Liangge San, removing Zhuye (Bambusae Folium) and Baimi (White Honey), and adding herbs that release the exterior and harmonize qi and blood. Mahuang, Jiegeng, Jingjie, Fangfeng, Huashi, Shigypsum, Chuanxiong, Danggui, Baizhu, Baishao, and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome) work synergistically. Jingjie, Fangfeng, Mahuang, and Bohe induce sweating to disperse wind-heat; Zhizi, Huashi, Mangxia, and Dahuang promote urination and defecation to descend fire and move water; Huangqin, Jiegeng, and Shigypsum clear and purge lung and stomach heat; Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Baishao nourish blood to tonify the liver; Lianqiao dissipates qi stagnation and blood coagulation; Gancao and Baizhu tonify the middle jiao and dry dampness; Shengjiang penetrates both exterior and interior, ensuring that sweating does not damage the exterior and purging does not damage the interior. Named "Tongsheng" (Thoroughly Sacred/Effective), it can completely eliminate sores, ulcers, carbuncles, and toxins. (Sores and ulcers are also caused by wind-heat stagnation and qi-blood constraint.) Removing Mangxia and Dahuang still allows for simultaneous resolution of exterior and interior conditions, suitable for those with non-hard stools.
Treats Taiyang Wind Strike syndrome accompanied by diarrhea and vomiting/reversal of qi. After the exterior syndrome is resolved, attack methods may be used. If the patient presents with continuous sweating, headache, hardness and fullness below the heart radiating pain to the hypochondrium, dry retching, shortness of breath, sweating without aversion to cold, this indicates the exterior is resolved but the interior is disharmonious. It also treats fluid retention in the hypochondrium after drinking, where coughing and expectoration pull on pain in the chest, known as Xuan Yin (Hanging Fluid). The pulse is deep and wiry. Without sudden death, the condition may persist for one hundred days or a year.
Yuanhua Genkwa Flos, Gansui Kansui Radix, Daji Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix (equal parts), Dazao Jujubae Fructus (10 pieces). Pound each herb separately into powder. Use 1.5 sheng of water, first decoct Dazao until reduced to 0.8 sheng, filter out the dregs, and add the powders of the other herbs. Strong individuals take 1 qian; weak individuals take 0.5 qian. After rapid purgation, self-nourish with millet porridge.
