Bai Dai (Leukorrhea) refers to a continuous flow of white discharge. The reason for this is that the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) is one of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, encircling the waist and umbilicus like a belt. All eight extraordinary vessels are associated with the Kidney, and the Dai Mai governs the invisible fluids of the body. When the Qi of the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner) is deficient and damaged, the Dai Mai fails to secure, leading to leakage. White discharge indicates Qi deficiency, while red discharge indicates Fire. The treatment method primarily focuses on tonifying the Kidney. There is more white discharge and less red discharge. If caused by Spleen deficiency, Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) is used; if caused by Qi deficiency, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) is used; if caused by Liver deficiency, Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) combined with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used.
[Liu Jun Zi Tang] Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium)
Bai Dai can arise from various causes such as Qi deficiency, Phlegm stagnation, and Blood deficiency, damaging the Zang-Fu organs and manifesting through the meridians. Damage to the Liver Meridian results in blue-green discharge like mud; damage to the Heart Meridian results in red discharge like red essence; damage to the Spleen Meridian results in yellow discharge like rotten melon; damage to the Lung Meridian results in white discharge like nasal mucus; damage to the Kidney Meridian results in black discharge like epistaxis. Although categorized into five colors based on meridian damage, red and white discharges are the most common. White discharge occurs when Heat enters the Large Intestine, and red discharge occurs when Heat enters the Small Intestine. White discharge belongs to the Qi level, and red discharge belongs to the Blood level. For Qi deficiency, Renshen and Baizhu are used; for Blood deficiency, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) are used. However, this condition is often accompanied by lower back pain, and rarely without it. Generally, severe Bai Dai causes lower back pain, while mild cases do not. Nowadays, when people suffer from emotional constraint (Qi stagnation due to anger or depression), they experience lower back pain, dizziness, and vertigo. Thus, it is evident that Bai Dai is related to Qi deficiency, and Yang Rong Tang (Nourish the Vigor Decoction) is suitable.
[Yang Rong Tang] Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Danggui, Chuanxiong, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma), Wumei (Mume Fructus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Wujapi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), Haitongpi (Sarcandae Cortex)
In obese individuals, Bai Dai is mostly due to Damp-Phlegm, so drugs such as Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum), Banxia, Haishi (Pterocarpis), Chuanxiong, Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), and Fu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) should be used.
In thin individuals, Bai Dai is mostly due to Damp-Heat, so drugs such as Huashi (Talcum), Chuanxiong, Bo, Haishi, Gafen (Concha Meretricis), and Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) should be used.
The treatment for Chi Dai (Red Leukorrhea) and Bai Dai is the same as for Li Ji (Dysentery). Weifeng Tang (Stomach Wind Decoction), Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria), and Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) are suitable.
[Weifeng Tang] Baizhu, Muli (Ostreae Concha), Danggui, Baishao, Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Fuling, Sumi (Setariae Milicae Fructus), Chuanxiong
[Wuling San] Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Baizhu, Fuling, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Zhuling (Polyporus)
When Phlegm-Damp flows downward and infiltrates the Bladder, emesis should be used above to lift the Qi, and Er Zhu Er Chen Wan (Two-Atractylodes and Two-Chen Pill) along with Walengzi (Arcaea Concha) should be used below to dry the Dampness.
[Er Zhu Er Chen Wan] This is Er Chen Tang (Two-Chen Decoction) added with Cangzhu and Baizhu.
For Bai Dai accompanied by heart and abdominal pain, with a sallow complexion and weakness, Danggui Jian Wan (Angelica Decoction Pill) is suitable. If there is lower back pain, Bixie Fenqing Yin (Grassleaf Sedum Decoction for Clearing the Turbid) is suitable.
[Bixie Fenqing Yin] Chuanbixie (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Yizhiren (Bletillae Rhizoma), Wuyao (Linderae Radix), Gancaoshao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Cum Radice), Fuling, Yan (Salt)
[Danggui Jian Wan] Danggui, Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Muli, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shudi, Baishao, Diyü (Sanguisorbae Radix), Chuanduan (Dipsaci Radix)
Grind the above herbs into powder, make pills with vinegar paste. Take with wine or rice soup.
For prolonged leakage of Bai Dai, with a weak Chi pulse at the Cun position and exhaustion of Kidney Water, Bu Jing Gu Zhen Tang (Tonify the Meridians and Secure the True Decoction) is suitable.
[Bu Jing Gu Zhen Tang] Bai Kuihua (Abutilonis Indici Flos), Yuli (Pruni Semen), Gancao, Chenpi, Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Renshen
Decoct the above medicines first, then add Chuanxiong and decoct again before taking.
When treating Bai Dai with Baizhi and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), both must be stir-fried until charred; Cangzhu must be stir-fried with salt water until scorched.
Mr. Dongyuan's method using Sunflower: White flowers treat Bai Dai, red flowers treat Chi Dai; Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) must be stir-fried until black for good efficacy.
To treat women's Chi Dai and self-flowing leukorrhea, Qizhi Xiangfu Wan (Seven-Processed Cyperi Pill) is suitable.
[Qizhi Xiangfu Wan] Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Pengze (Curcumae Rhizoma), soaked together in Tongbian (Child's Urine); again, Xiangfu, Honghua (Carthami Flos), Wumei, and Salt Water soaked together; again, Xiangfu, Chuanxiong, and Raw Water soaked together; again, Xiangfu, Danggui, and Wine soaked together; again, Xiangfu, Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), and Raw Water soaked together; again, Xiangfu, Shudi, and Wine soaked together; again, Xiangfu, Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Aye (Asini Corii Colla), and Vinegar soaked together.
Take pure Xiangfu, grind into powder, make pills with wine and vinegar paste, take with light vinegar soup.
