Zhang Zhongjing authored the *Jingui Yuhan Jing* (Golden Cabinet Jade Ring Classic), establishing it as the standard for medicine for all generations; Sima Qian wrote a biography of Chunyu Yi, which marks the origin of medical case records in later generations.

However, many medical case authors suffer from the common fault of boasting and self-conceit, making little claim to effective results. Only the medical cases of Ye Tianshi (Ye Xiangyan), recorded by his disciples, reveal endless profound principles upon careful study, truly deserving the title of a guide for clinical practice.

Nevertheless, the Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions are coastal areas located in a temperate zone. Warm-heat diseases account for eight or nine out of ten cases, while cold damage diseases account for only two or three out of one hundred. This is due to the low-lying terrain and warm climate, which differs from the west where the desiccating energy of Metal and the biting force of north winds cause people to easily contract cold damage syndromes. Therefore, Ye Tianshi rarely recorded cases of cold damage, and Wang Mengying was skilled in using cooling agents, earning the admiration of his contemporaries for his outstanding insight, which is well-founded.

Our Shaoxing predecessor, Mr. Shao Lansun, was a distinguished disciple of Mr. Wang Fuyuan. In clinical practice, he invariably conducted detailed Four Diagnostic Methods (Wang, Wen, Wen, Qie - Inspection, Auscultation/Olfaction, Inquiry, Palpation), and his prescriptions often yielded immediate results, gaining him fame in eastern Zhejiang for nearly forty years. Furthermore, his diagnostic notes followed the format of Yu Jiayan's *Yuyi Cao* (Meaningful Grass) and imitated the procedure of Ye Tianshi. Cases were recorded above the prescriptions, and prescriptions were proposed within the cases. For patients' families, this clarified the progression or regression of symptoms; for fellow practitioners, it facilitated discussion on the steps of treatment. Now, I, though unworthy, along with Cao Chu, may rival the cases of Ye. However, cases regarding the treatment of cold damage are still lacking, just as the *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of Medical Tradition) states that "south of the Great River, injuries are mostly from warm pathogens." If like-minded individuals possess cherished collections, I hope they will be published continuously to benefit future generations. I now presume to categorize them slightly and append my humble observations, hoping for correction from experts. This is the preface.

In the tenth month of the 22nd year of the Republic of China, Shi Jiuhua (courtesy name Jiesheng) of Shaoxing recorded this at his residence near the Right Army Shrine.

1. The syndromes in the cases include summer-heat pathogen combined with damp-heat and food stagnation, leukorrhea combined with menstrual obstruction and cough, etc. Since disease names are difficult to distinguish, the classification is based on which syndrome the treatment method focuses on, providing some clarity. For example, if the treatment for summer-heat combined with damp-heat is clearing heat and promoting diuresis to remove dampness, it is listed under the Damp-Heat category.

2. Some cases contain only initial prescriptions without final ones, or post-treatment prescriptions for nourishing the stomach without initial ones. It is regrettable that these cannot be collected one by one. Classification is therefore made roughly based on symptoms and treatment methods.

3. Although patient addresses were noted in the original cases, they are reproduced here as originally written. For those few prescriptions where the address is lost, the character "Mou" (Certain/Some) is used instead.

4. This compilation of seasonal diseases still lacks categories for Cold Damage and Fire Pathogens. Given that our region in Shaoxing is temperate, true cold damage is rare, while complications with warm pathogens are more common. "Fire" extreme manifests as "Heat." Therefore, since fire syndromes are scattered among various diseases, a separate Warm-Heat category has been established to ensure clear organization.

5. Whether each case was effective is difficult to determine. However, where the principle lies, the method lies. Wise individuals can intuitively grasp this. The editor presumes not to speculate and asks for the reader's understanding.
