Ingredients: Qiang Xiao (Saltpeter/Chenopodium Seed Salt?, 1 qian or 8 fen), Sheng Puhuang (Semen Typhae Raw, 4 fen), Yazao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit, 0.5 fen), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 1 qian), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into an extremely fine powder. Store in a porcelain bottle tightly sealed to prevent loss of potency.
Bidan (Green Pill - Secondary Grade):
Ingredients: Baicaoshuang (Carbonis Herbae, half spoon), Gancao Hui (Ash of Licorice Root, 3 spoons), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 5 li), Yuandan (Origin Pill, 1 li), Yudan (Jade Pill, 3 fen), Bohe (Herba Menthae, de-veined, appropriate amount).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder. Store in a porcelain bottle tightly sealed. In spring and summer, use more Bohe and less Yudan; in autumn and winter, use more Yudan and less Bohe. To expel phlegm, add a small amount of processed Yazao. For early-stage Houbi, do not use Jindan excessively as its nature is penetrating and strong, which may overwhelm mild cases. Bidan eliminates phlegm, clears heat, dispels wind, detoxifies, opens throat closure, and expels saliva/phlegm most effectively, unlike the rapid action of Jindan. For mild conditions like Hou Yong (throat abscess) and Ru E (tonsillar hypertrophy), use only Bidan. For severe conditions, combine Jindan and Bidan. Initially, use 9 parts Bidan to 1 part Jindan; after insufflating the five throat passages, change to 7 parts Bidan to 3 parts Jindan. Use equal parts only for severe symptoms. When phlegm-saliva is obstructed upwards, use 6 parts Jindan to 4 parts Bidan. Adjust dosage based on severity; do not neglect careful consideration. Do not use indiscriminately if there is no phlegm; these are sacred prescriptions.
Another Effective Formula:
Bidan (2 fen), Yuandan (1 li), Bohe (2 fen), Bingpian (1 fen), Baicaoshuang (5 li), Ya Xiao (Saltpeter, 3 fen), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 fen), Pengsha (Borax, 5 li).
Preparation and Administration: Grind together into a fine powder, store securely, preventing leakage of air.
Method for Preparing Yudan (Jade Pill): Crush Mingfan (Alumen) into bean-sized pieces, place in a silver pot, heat over fire, stirring constantly until no lumps remain. Then crush Hao Xiao (Good Niter), slowly add one-tenth to two-thirds, crush Guan Pengsha (Official Borax), also add three-tenths. After a while, add raw Fan again. Once melted, add Niter and Borax again, gradually increasing until the mixture fills the pot rim and rises high like a steamed bun. Then smelt over raw charcoal fire until the alum is dry. Cover the pot with a clean tile, wait briefly, then remove. Add a small amount of genuine Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), mix with 5-6 spoons of water, drip onto the pill using the tip of a spoon, return the pot to the fire to dry, then remove. Place the pot and tile upside down on clean ground, cover with paper, then cover with another tile. After seven days, collect. Select those that are light and free of vertical cracks for use.
Method for Preparing Yuandan (Origin Pill): Take fat white Dengcao (Rush Pith), soak thoroughly in water. Use a complete bamboo pen tube, wet it, plug one end tightly with wet paper, insert the rush pith into the tube, tamp firmly until full, seal with wet paper, and roast in fire. When smoke ceases and the tube turns red, remove and place on a wet brick, cover with a bowl, wait to cool, peel off outer tube ash and paper ash from both ends, and take the blackish-gray clump of rush pith ash from inside.
Xuemei Dan (Snow Plum Pill):
Take large green plums, any quantity, split open, remove pits. Fill with Mingfan (Alumen), secure with bamboo skewers. Roast over high heat until the plum turns to ash. Do not use other materials. Only use Bai Fan (White Alum), preferably light white like calamine. It is very effective for expelling saliva and clearing clear phlegm. Xiuyun Shanren said: Xuemei Dan has effects comparable to Jiaoyao (horn medicine) but is milder, simpler, and easier to prepare; truly a secret prescription.

Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar), Yujin (Radix Curcumae Longae, each 1 liang), Badou (Semen Crotonis, 14 grains, cleaned).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Make pills using vinegar-boiled wheat paste, size of mung beans. Take 7 pills per dose, send down with clear tea. Vomiting up phlegm-saliva brings immediate effect. If already appearing dead, pry open mouth, grind, and administer. This is Luo Taiwu's divine formula. *Zhengzhi Huibu* adds Bai Jiangcan (2 qian) and Mangxiao (5 qian) for superior results.
Sun Yaban Shenfang (Supervisor Sun's Divine Formula):
Ingredients: Yazao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit), Mingfan (Alumen), Chuan Lian (Radix Coptidis).
Preparation and Administration: Equal parts, roast on new tile, grind into powder. Use 5 fen each time, inhale into throat. Immediate cure.
Another Secret Formula:
Take 5 qian of Mingfan (Alumen), grind into powder, place on iron knife head. Put 7 spiders into the alum. Melt alum over charcoal fire under the knife until dry. Mix into powder. Use one "zi" (small measure) each time, insufflate into throat. Expel thick phlegm, immediate effect. Choose large abdominal spiders with gray-yellow pus for best results.
Another Quick Verification Formula: Treats Hou Bi (throat closure) and Ru E (tonsils).
Take a handful of fresh Tuniuxi Gen (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), 7 leaves of Aiye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi), pound and mix to extract juice. Add several spoons of Renru (Human Milk), instill into nostrils. Soon, phlegm-saliva will emerge from mouth and nose, incomparably effective. One variant excludes Aiye.

For chronic illness, add more Zhenzhu, Ercha, Longgu to promote flesh growth. After smallpox/variol, remove Longgu and Huangbai, add Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis). For severe gan, add Diluxiang (Olibanum) and Zhusha (Cinnabar) in small amounts.

Ingredients: Hanshuishi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Mayaxiao (Saltpeter), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitras).
Preparation and Administration: Equal parts. Use Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction) to melt the six ingredients over fire. Add Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), mix evenly, pour out, wait to cool until it forms frost. Grind fine, store tightly. Use a small amount to hold in mouth and dissolve. For Houbi, insufflate using a bamboo tube.
