Shan Chan Feng (Unilateral Peritonsillar Swelling) presents with unilateral edema. It may arise at the heart region or between the neck. The treatment methods are detailed previously and must be identified carefully. Needling to open the wind pathways will naturally bring peace and safety.
In the early stage, unilateral redness, swelling, and pain occur; the left side belongs to the Heart, and the right side belongs to the Lung. Whether the swelling is in the head/neck or above the neck, the treatment is the same as that for Shuang Chan Feng (Bilateral Peritonsillar Swelling).
Half-headache pain without cease, why does the patient shed tears from both eyes? When wind-dispelling medicines are ineffective, tonifying formulas should be used to ensure the removal of swelling and pain, eliminating worry.
This condition presents with unilateral headache as if breaking apart. There may be redness and swelling on either side like a kernel. One must needle the Fengchi (GB20) acupoints bilaterally. Administer Zidi San (Purple Earth Powder). Combine with Kaiguan San (Opening Gate Powder). Only those with deficiency in the Lower Yuan (Kidney Qi) are prone to this disease. It is appropriate to administer tonifying formulas, such as Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix). (Deficiency patterns should not be needled.)
Shu Fu Shi stated: For children with headaches as if breaking apart, when previous medicines fail, use Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 5 qian and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) 2 qian, decocted in wine and taken orally. Recovery will be immediate.
Chengzhen Feng (Pillow Resting Wind) itself is not strange. However, if it develops into Zhufa Feng (Pillow Hair Wind), it becomes difficult to treat. One only needs to urgently apply external compresses. Do not neglect taking Zidi San and Kaiguan San.
This symptom manifests as a carbuncle/toxin growing behind the head, presenting with redness, swelling, and pain. A skin-breaking needle can be used. Administer Zidi Tang (Purple Earth Decoction) combined with Kaiguan San. Effectiveness is as miraculous as a god.
Redness and swelling inside the ear with pain double the usual. There may be pus or blood, leading to discomfort. If a youth contracts this disease, it is destined to cause severe illness and disaster in later years.
This condition presents with pain and swelling inside the ear. There may also be redness and swelling outside the ear and pain in the head. Pus and blood may discharge from the ear. If the pain and swelling are severe, leading to trismus (lockjaw) where the mouth cannot open, and dark, scanty urine, one should use Zidi Tang added with Longdancao (Gentianae Radix) and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis). Apply Jiaoyao externally. Blow Wuxing Dan (Five Elements Pill) into the ear. Immediate effect will be seen.
Shu Fu Shi stated: Regarding the above thirty-six conditions, the brilliance lies in governing them all with one formula. All are miraculously effective. Therefore, it is kept secret. Future students must examine symptoms in detail and caution, avoiding errors in distinguishing deficiency and excess. Thus, they will avoid mistakes even in slight cases.
In the initial stage of various Houfeng (Throat Wind) conditions, there must be aversion to cold, fever, and headache. Constipation and dark, dysuric urine occur. Take Zizheng San (Purple Correct Powder) and Dihuang San (Rehmannia Powder) together. Do not deviate from these medicines. This treats both Qi and Blood, regulating Qi and dispersing Blood, driving out Wind-Phlegm, and preventing the accumulation of pathogenic heat. In cases with severe phlegm-saliva, mix Jiaoyao with well water and hold it in the mouth to expectorate, ensuring the phlegm-saliva surges outward and does not accumulate in the Lungs and Stomach. Additionally, blowing Huisheng Dan (Revive Life Pill) helps draw out pathogenic heat. For any throat condition, if cooling medicines are mistakenly taken, causing a sensation of heaviness and discomfort in the chest/diaphragm, mix Jiaoyao with well water and hold it in the mouth. Mental restlessness will stop immediately. The formulas prescribed within this school always aim to intercept and stabilize Wind-Heat located in the upper body, preventing it from descending, and then treat according to specific symptoms. This ensures swift and miraculous efficacy. When preparing various medicines, avoid fire; use them raw. Blowing powders must be ground extremely fine. Mixing them just before use is best. Liquid preparations should be steamed, not boiled. These are all secrets of oral transmission. One must study them diligently.
