1. The onset of all diseases is due to the stagnation and obstruction of Qi and Blood, preventing their free circulation. For those suitable for acupuncture, needle methods should be used to open and guide the flow; for those requiring moxibustion, moxa methods should be used to warm and tonify. After treatment, proper care must be taken, avoiding raw, cold, sour, and slippery foods. Failure to observe these precautions will inevitably lead to other ailments.
2. Generally, acupuncture is best performed after noon (Wu hour), not before.
3. Regarding moxibustion, treatment should proceed from the upper body to the lower body, and from Yang meridians to Yin meridians.
4. Moxibustion is contraindicated in cases of a fine and rapid pulse, or immediately after profuse sweating.
5. For Fire Tonification (Bu method in moxibustion), do not blow on the fire; allow it to extinguish naturally and slowly. After moxibustion, apply a plaster immediately to nourish and retain the warming Qi. If using the Fire Draining (Xie) method, wait until the draining procedure is complete before applying the plaster. This distinguishes the tonification and draining techniques.
6. For Fire Draining, one may blow on the fire, and the application of moxa should be swift. A plaster should only be applied after the moxa blister has ulcerated. This constitutes the method of tonification and draining.

To manufacture needles, horse-bit iron must be used. Since the Horse corresponds to Wu (Noon) and Wu belongs to Fire, and Fire conquers Metal, this symbolizes overcoming toxicity and neutralizing the "poison" of iron. Therefore, Materia Medica suggests that needles made from horse-bits are excellent. Needles made of pure gold are even better. The refining process involves shaping the horse-bit iron into needles two or three cun long, regardless of exact length, ensuring they are smooth, round, and sharp. Several triangular-prism-shaped needles are also prepared for specific conditions and points. The tips must not be excessively sharp to prevent breakage within the flesh. Next, apply Toad Venom (Chansu) to the needle tip and heat it slightly in fire without turning it red. Remove, reapply Toad Venom, and repeat three times. While hot, insert the needle between the skin and meat of cured pork. Boil three bowls of water with subsequent herbs, place the needle and meat inside, and boil until the water evaporates. Pour into clear water, let cool, and retrieve the needles. Insert the needles into yellow earth over a hundred times to remove fire toxicity. Polish clean and straighten with a fine stone, then coat with pine nut oil. It is advisable to keep them close to human warmth (Qi) regularly.
