Donkey Mouth Wind occurs on the lower lip. The swelling increases gradually, unbearable to describe. Pain is more severe, like knife stabbing. Frequent application of external medicines yields miraculous effects. Initially, a red sore appears on the lower lip, which then swells and grows outward from the lower lip. Fumigate with Xiaolu San (Disperse Dew Powder), administer Zidi Tang (Purple Earth Decoction), and insufflate Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder). A skin-breaking needle may be used; efficacy is immediate upon pricking. The needling method must target the swollen areas on both sides.
Fish Cheek Disease infects the cheek region. Swelling and pain are intolerable, known only to oneself. I impart this secret to you: treat according to these methods to avoid delay, which would make the condition difficult to manage.
This symptom arises near the buccal hollows. Bilateral floating, redness, and swelling are called Double Fish Cheek. Unilateral redness and swelling are called Single Fish Cheek. Treatment involves applying Jiaoyao (Corner Medicine) externally after mixing, or fumigating with Xiaolu San, administering Zidi Tang, and holding Bingpeng San in the mouth. If daily redness and swelling become extremely severe, a skin-breaking needle may be used to release blood, followed by external application of Jiaoyao. If the disease persists for a long time and pus emerges from the cheek, internally administer Lafan Wan (Beeswax and Alum Pill) and externally apply Shengji San (Generate Flesh Powder).
Wind named "Jaw-Hooking" causes bilateral swelling. Redness and swelling are unbearable, with tendons seeming to spasm. Encountering this wind is not easy to treat; apply medicines and needles on time without hesitation.
Initially, bilateral facial cheeks are red, swollen, hot, and accompanied by aversion to cold. One must check if there is swelling on the teeth inside the mouth. If the alveolar process is swollen, it is not Jaw-Hooking but Tooth Wind. Treat immediately using methods for Tooth Wind.
If it belongs to Jaw-Hooking, first apply Jiaoyao externally, administer Zidi Tang with increased doses of Qiaociao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus). If swelling does not subside, use a skin-breaking needle to release blood. Do not needle deeply. Externally, continue with applications, adding a small amount of Mofeng Gao (Wind-Rubbing Ointment) for massage.
Unilateral redness and cheek swelling constitute the Single Syndrome. Treatment is similar to the double side, but Ginseng is not used. After a long time, swelling floats up, and teeth become red and swollen. Apply Jiaoyao externally, hold Danji internally.
Unilateral floating, redness, swelling, and pain of the facial cheek, or prolonged duration leading to swelling and pain of the alveolar process. Apply Jiaoyao externally, hold Danji internally, insufflate Huisheng Dan (Return Life Pellet), and administer Zidi Tang.
Luojia Wind (Dropped Frame Wind) is indeed difficult to treat. It is generally due to hidden injury to Qi and Blood. The hook-and-lock method restores function without issue; when misaligned, careful consideration is required.
This condition may result from drinking alcohol, sudden laughter, or yawning, causing the mandible to dislocate and fail to close. The mouth opens wide and cannot chew. Although it presents as upper heat and lower deficiency, it is essentially caused by Qi and Blood depletion, leading to tendon laxity and failure to retract. If onset is within one or two days, it is treatable; if prolonged, the tendons have elongated, making reduction difficult. Treatment employs the "upper-hanging" method: first gently lift the mandible, secure it with a silk handkerchief. Then palpate the articulation area to guide it back into place. Place a slice of old ginger on the bilateral Jiache (ST6) acupoints. Place moxa cones on the ginger and moxibustion with incense once or twice to eradicate the root cause.
Shufu stated: This condition is caused by internal injury; moxibustion is suitable, while needling is not. One should administer Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) with Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix). For Qi and Blood deficiency, Danggui Buxue Tang (Tangkuei and Astragalus Decoction) is the primary treatment. Do not recklessly administer medicines for Houfeng (Throat Wind), as this will cause significant harm.
