The throat suddenly suffers from "Fish Scale Wind" (Yulin Feng). Many physicians fail to recognize its true nature. If one seeks a cure for this condition, it is not difficult; the key lies in the frequent application of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
This condition arises below the "Di Zhong" (the central area of the throat) and resembles "Pine Seed Wind" (Songzi Feng), but with slight swelling where white spots appear. After a long time, these white spots transform into scales. For scales growing downwards, apply Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder) and Chilin San (Red Scale Powder) to open the wind pathway via acupuncture, take Zidi Tang (Purple Earth Decoction) as the principal decoction, mix it with Mofeng Gao (Wind-Moving Ointment), and hold it in the mouth. Do not use a knife. This condition is extremely dangerous and difficult to treat; the treatment is the same as that for Double Pine Seed Wind. In the early stage, before scales form, it is easy to treat. If scales have already formed, food and drink reaching the throat will induce vomiting and nausea, which indicates an incurable case. Alternatively, if this condition is triggered by internal injury and coughing, there is no hope of recovery. ○If constipation occurs with inability to pass stool, add Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn - *Note: Substitute with Buffalo Horn in modern practice*), Mutong (Akebia Stem), and Yuanming Fen (Mirabilite) to the decoction. Use the principal decoction combined with Bingpeng San and Chilin San, alternating between insufflation into the throat and holding in the mouth without interruption. Use goose feathers to repeatedly apply the principal decoction near the sides of the "Di Zhong," hold for a moment, then wring out and spit out the phlegm and saliva; natural efficacy will follow.
"Pine Seed Wind" arises within the throat's interior, swelling periodically and developing red scales. Do not say this condition is always perilous; immediate treatment can yield results.
This condition arises at the lower edge of the "Di Zhong." Initially, both sides are red and purple, sized like millet grains, swelling periodically. The upward-growing scales characterize this condition. It gradually grows to the size of a mung bean, resembling a pine seed. If it becomes wrapped in yellow skin or reaches the size of a lotus seed, it becomes difficult to treat. First, perform acupuncture on the wind pathway, take Zidi Tang, add Yinsuoshi Kaiguan San (Silver Spoon Opening Gate Powder), mix the principal decoction with Mofeng Gao for holding in the mouth, and insufflate Bingpeng San. The treatment is the same as for Fish Scale Wind. If after two or three days the color turns from red to yellow, fear the recurrence of scales; frequently hold the principal decoction in the mouth without stopping. Follow the prescribed method strictly, and do not use a knife. Both this condition and Fish Scale Wind are dangerous conditions; do not underestimate them.
Unilateral presentation is named "Pine Seed Wind," occurring on one side. The left side corresponds to the Heart, and the right side to the Lung. Acupuncture and herbal medicine should be applied together; following the correct method yields miraculous and immediate results.
This condition manifests as unilateral swelling below the "Di Zhong," either on the left or right. Knife surgery is also contraindicated. The treatment is the same as for Double Pine Seed Wind. However, for cases on the left, double the dosage of Danpi (Moutan Cortex) and Chishao (Red Peony Root) in the decoction; for cases on the right, double the dosage of Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) and Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit).
