Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Yueshi (Natrii Sulfas), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Xionghuang (Realgar), Yanxiao (Nitrums Refinatum), Baifan (Alumen), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (each 5 qian).
The above eight ingredients are ground into fine powder. Use the bile from four male pigs to mix evenly with the medicine powder, then place it back into the pig gallbladder shell. On the day of Lidong (Start of Winter), bury it in a pit in the ground; on the day of Chunfen (Spring Equinox), retrieve it and grind again. If encountering Lanhou Sha (severe throat scarlet fever), mix this powder with the aforementioned formula and insufflate into the throat for miraculous efficacy. For mild cases, insufflating alone is also excellent.
Yuancun (Calculus Bovis / Bezoar), Qingyan (Halitum), Xionghuang (Realgar), Zhenzhu (Margarita), Xihuang (Moschi Fermentum), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) (each 1 fen); Yueshi (Natrii Sulfas) (4 fen), Renzhongbai (Hominis Urinae Depuratum) (5 fen), Tonglü (Aerugo) (8 fen).
Grind the nine ingredients into powder, adding a small amount of eel blood.
This formula is identical to Tao Tingzhao's Zouma Gan Formula. In cases of Ya Gan (noma gangrenosum) with rotting gums, insufflating this powder yields immediate results.
Lao Zhu Po Fen (Old Sow Dung)
Must be collected in winter, placed on the roof, exposed to sun during the day and dew at night. After about one month, retrieve it and roast over charcoal fire. When the smoke nearly ceases, stop heating and let it cool in a sealed environment. In April or May, collect the roots of Chouhua Nianggen (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), crush them to extract juice, and mix it into the processed pig dung. Dry it, then mix and dry again. Repeat this process seven times. Store in a porcelain bottle. Whenever encountering acute conditions such as Hou'e (tonsillitis), Houyong (pharyngeal abscess), or Houbi (pharyngeal obstruction), where phlegm and saliva are congested, voice is lost, and breath is nearly exhausted, swallowing this medicine brings immediate recovery. If the jaw is tightly closed and medication cannot be taken orally, dripping it into the nose is also effective. It also treats Shazhang (summerheat-induced abdominal distension and pain) occurring in summer, administered with cold water. Furthermore, it treats Xiagan (chancre) with rotting tissue, applied externally mixed with sesame oil. (Jinghua notes: This corresponds to the principle of Nanyang Zhufu Tang. Pigs are water animals; sows belong to the Yin category; dung is the most turbid substance within Yin. Throat disorders often involve Yin deficiency with hyperactive fire and stomach turbidity steaming upward. Using sow dung enters Yin to descend turbidity. Combined with Achyranthes root, which has ascending and descending properties and can induce vomiting or purging, rapid efficacy is achieved. Regarding the treatment of Shazhang, it also employs the principle of using turbidity to attack turbidity, though using horse dung ash is considered superior, as seen in Wu Jutong's "Wenbing Tiaobian".) [E notes: Mr. Shiqiao often uses serum for treating Lanhou Sha. Serum is a Western medicine, reportedly extracted as the essence from horse urine. While many benefit from serum, many also suffer harm from it, which I have witnessed repeatedly. Nevertheless, this formula remains more stable.]
