民国四年乙卯八月海虞张谔汝伟书于寿石居南窗下
Olive (Canarium album) and raw Radish (Raphanus sativus), decocted in water for oral administration.
The self-note states: This is a formula I formulated myself. Olive is green in color, which clears the latent fire and wind of the Foot-Jueyin Liver channel (Liver Channel of Foot-Jueyin), thereby calming its upward rebellion. Radish is white in color, which transforms the external dryness-heat affecting the Hand-Taiyin Lung channel (Lung Channel of Hand-Taiyin), and descends its qi. Combined as a preparation, it eliminates stagnant phlegm in the meridians and resolves toxicity caused by rich foods and fish/noodles. It can be taken as daily tea to prevent throat disorders; do not neglect it because of its mild nature.
A copy of *Nang Mi Hou Shu* (Secret Manual for Throat Disorders). It has no volume numbers. Mr. Yu Yanghao obtained this book from a certain source. In the winter of the Xinchui year, throat disorders were prevalent until the summer of the following year. Besides dispensing medicine, Mr. Yu planned to publish this book to broaden therapeutic methods. Because the original text contained errors and absurdities, and the formula names were bizarre, resembling those used by itinerant quacks, he ordered Jinghua to reorganize and revise it carefully. Based on the original text, cross-referencing and auditing were conducted, incorporating various scholarly opinions, and the content was reorganized into eight chapters. Unorthodox names were deleted and replaced with elegant terms. The dosages of herbs remained exactly as in the old version. Mr. Xiao Dongyou participated in the revision. After discussion and finalization, it was submitted for printing.
Postscript by Wang Jinghua of Xinyang, April, 28th Year of Guangxu (1902)
Throat disorders arise rapidly, present with fierce intensity, and have complex etiologies. Physicians must evaluate symptoms and prescribe medications appropriately, whether using cold, heat, purgation, or tonification; indeed, one cannot adhere rigidly to a single approach. Historically, there were no specialized books on treating throat disorders, leaving clinicians lacking confidence. Since the publication of *Bai Hou Ji Biao Jue Wei* (Taboo for Surface-Release in White Membrane Disease: Extracting the Subtle Truths) by Master Dongzhu Xianshi, practitioners have predominantly resorted to cold-natured medicines. Following its formulas, results have been mixed, with both efficacy and harm observed; thus, it cannot be considered a perfect work. Previously, a friend gifted me a copy of *Nang Mi Hou Shu*. After repeated study, I found its principles sound. Applying it yielded miraculous effects. Alas, the works of Mr. Yang have been lost. Although I harbored the wish to revise and widely disseminate them, I had no means to begin. Fortunately, the compilation is now complete. Not forgetting the kindness of my friends, I add these few words as a postscript.
